Sarah Palin Slams D.C.'s 'Corrupt Bastards Club'

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R)slammed "corrupt bastards" in Washington, D.C. in an op-ed published by Breitbart.

"Today, doesn't it seem like we have a Corrupt Bastards Club in D.C.? On steroids?" Palin writes after telling a story of Alaskan lawmakers sometimes referred to as the "Corrupt Bastards Club."

Palin said she's "prepared to be attacked" for the comparison.

"The fight over defunding socialized healthcare, aka Obamacare, should have opened everyone’s eyes to call it the same," Palin writes.

Palin defends tea party Republicans like Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Mike Lee (R-Utah), who pushed to shut down the government over their opposition to Obamacare. The former vice presidential hopeful said the Cruz and Lee had "the only credible plan of action."

"There was no other credible alternative plan to seize the constitutionally appropriate opportunity to legislatively close the purse strings to stop the juggernaut of full socialized medicine," Palin writes.

Other Republicans have disagreed, chastising Cruz for taking actions against Obamacare. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) have both criticized Cruz, saying the push against Obamacare wasn't worth shutting down the government.

Mitch McConnell critics wrong on 'Kentucky kickback' in shutdown bill, according to Senators, Army Corp of Engineers

Just minutes after the deadline budget deal was struck Wednesday night, conservative tea party operatives pounced on U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell with claims that it included a “$2 billion Kentucky kickback” to the Republicans’ chief negotiator.

Some even called it a $3 billion “earmark” for the Ohio River project, referencing a spending practice — earmarking — that’s no longer permitted in Congress.

But the Army Corps of Engineers contradicted those claims Thursday, saying no money was appropriated for the massive construction project — the Olmsted Dam being built next to a new set of locks on the Ohio between Illinois and Western Kentucky.

Instead, the shutdown bill passed by Congress established a new $2.9 billion spending limit for the project, up from the previous cap of $1.7 billion, said Mike Braden, chief of the Olmsted Division in the corps’ Louisville office.

“It is not an appropriation,” he said, adding that Congress will have to take additional votes to spend the money as the project proceeds.

Had Congress not raised the spending limit, he said, the corps would have had to stop work on the dam in January, putting several hundred people out of work and likely adding at least $80 million to the project’s cost.

Group raised issue

The issue was first raised Wednesday night by the Senate Conservatives Fund, a group founded by former South Carolina Republican Sen. Jim DeMint, who often tangled with McConnell while he was in the Senate. The group, which was a major player in the 2010 campaigns of Kentucky’s Rand Paul and Florida’s Marco Rubio, has been highly critical of McConnell in recent months.

Executive Director Matt Hoskins wrote on the fund’s site Wednesday:“Americans are familiar with the ‘Cornhusker Kickback’ that Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson was given in exchange for his vote on Obamacare. Well now Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell has an Obamacare earmark of his own.

“In exchange for funding Obamacare and raising the debt limit, Mitch McConnell secured a $2 billion Kentucky kickback,” Hoskins wrote.“This is an insult to Kentucky families who don’t want to pay for Obamacare and who don’t want to shoulder any more debt.”

In an interview Thursday, McConnell — a vocal opponent of the health care law — insisted he had nothing to do with inserting the Olmsted project into Wednesday’s budget deal.

CONtinued:

“The Army Corps requested it; both the House and Senate passed the authorization for it,” McConnell said in the interview with The Courier-Journal, adding that the provision was also in the president’s budget.

Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., took credit for adding Olmsted to the budget deal, saying in a statement that he and Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., asked for it.

“According to the Army Corps of Engineers, 160 million taxpayer dollars will be wasted because of canceled contracts if this language is not included,” according to the statement.“Sen. Feinstein and I, as chairman and ranking member of the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee, requested this provision.”

Confusion on limits

Braden said there has been widespread confusion over the spending limits, with some erroneously saying the limit was raised from $775 million. That was the project’s original cap from 1988 and remained in the original legislation that was amended Wednesday, but it had been allowed to swell to $1.7 billion through inflation, with no congressional action, Braden said.

With the spending cap lifted, he said,“We expect to see our annual trend of appropriations, which are roughly in the $150-million-a-year range.”

Paul, who voted against the budget deal, deflected questions about the Olmsted provisions on Thursday.

“We don’t have any reaction,” said Daniel Bayens, the state communications director for Kentucky’s junior senator, a tea party favorite.“We have been on the record, in terms of our concerns for this project.”

Bayens noted a letter Paul wrote to the Army Corps in May 2012, objecting to cost overruns and lengthy delays for the project.

Rep. Ed Whitfield, a Western Kentucky Republican whose 1st District includes the Olmsted project, also declined to comment on the provision.

The project involves opening new locks and a 2,600-foot-long dam near Olmsted, Ill., and Monkeys Eyebrow, Ky. It was once targeted for completion in 2006, but its complexity and off-and-on funding has caused costs to balloon and construction delays.

The corps estimates that the new locks and dam will be operational in 2020.

Until then, the entire commercial navigation system of the Ohio River faces a choke point near Olmsted, where two locks and dams with nearly century-old technology are cobbled together and at risk of failure.

So there you have it...it's infrastructure that the President has tried to create jobs while repairing AMERICA's bridges, roads, and dams and the teabagging CONS fight him on everytime.

Why do CONservatives think liberals want THEM to pay for things they think "moochers" use. Actually liberals would be happy if CONservatives would pay for what CONservatives are already using----like highways and emergency rescue and safe food and medicine and public education and clean water and electrical power lines and air traffic control and pollution cleanup and weather forecasting and defective product recall and safety protections....

Teabagger CONS own RACISM. DEMS left it a LONG time ago, that's why the blacks and Hispanics vote DEM. They know you are racist and prove it everyday.

They know it’s “bad” to be a racist, and so they will deny the white hood while hiding under the deflection that Democrats wore it first way back in the late 1860s when it was founded by six veterans of the Confederate Army. Yes, Democrats were a big part of the original KKK over 150 years ago. But Democrats were on the other side in 1948 with the addition of civil rights as a campaign plank and on into the fights for Civil Rights in the 60s, losing Southern white voters to the Republican Party. But really, what matters when you are voting is where each party stands TODAY.

(The KKK had a resurgence in the 20s by white protestants angry at industrialization and immigration and high on Prohibition and the Bible, and a third big incarnation in reaction to the Civil Rights movement.)

These poor people were fed one tidbit of information and they don’t even know that they are making fools of themselves by repeating it, as repeating it admits that it’s wrong to be wearing the metaphorical white hood and reveals that said conservative has no idea that many of those same people left the Democratic Party over the issue of Civil Rights and joined the modern day White Hood party; aka the Republican Party. This is not a matter of “opinion” or rhetoric. It’s history.

This brings us back to my original point, because the KKK still exists, and it aligns with the Republican party issues-wise, even if its membership is somewhat pathetic compared to its glory days. Well, it seems the two organizations have that in common as well. To put this in terms and using logic Republicans can understand, you can’t spell KKK without the letters G-O-P.

While Republicans are rarely known for making a whole lot of sense, a tweet I saw from House Speaker John Boehner yesterday really takes the cake. You are confusing popularity with credibility.
Don't worry, many people of low IQ confuse the two.
The National Enquirer was one of the most popular periodicals ever, yet my local newspaper, which didn't have 1% as many subscribers, was by far more credible.
So you see how many people visit a site, has nothing to do with the truthfulness of its content.

NASA's all-sky fireball camera network captured video of the Orionid meteor shower fireballs produced when meteors slammed into Earth's atmosphere on Oct. 20. In total, the all-sky network detected 15 Orionid fireballs last night, according to SpaceWeather.com .

"Forecasters expect the shower to peak on Oct. 21 with about 20 meteors per hour," officials from SpaceWeather.com wrote. "However, Halley's debris stream is broad, so Orionid activity could spill into Oct. 22nd. The best time to look is during the hours before local sunrise when the constellation Orion is high in the sky." [See photos from the 2013 Orionid meteor shower]

Orionid activity will probably start to taper off, with the last streaks of light expected to appear in early or mid-November.

The Orionids occur when Earth passes through debris left behind by the famous Halley's Comet. Bits of dust left in the comet's wake burn up in the atmosphere, creating the potentially brilliant annual light show. About 75 percent of the meteors seen during the Orionids originated from the nucleus of Halley's Comet, according to Joe Rao, SPACE.com skywatching columnist.

While light from the full moon may have washed out much of the view for people in populated areas, some skywatchers did get the chance to see some "shooting stars."

Skywatcher Chris Bakley managed to take an amazing photo from North Cape May, N.J., during the shower's peak.

"The shot was taken only a couple minutes after moonrise while the moon was still low on the horizon," Bakley told SPACE.com via email. "The lager [larger] star in this picture is Venus, the moon was behind me."

Bakley's photo shows a skywatcher at the end of a dock. A meteor streaks through the top-right part of the photo with the Milky Way rising out from the central part of the image. The planet Venus is a bright spot shining just above the horizon.

The Orionids appear to emanate from the constellation Orion, giving them their name. Many of the meteors seem to come from the constellation's second-brightest star, Betelgeuse. The Orionid meteor shower can be seen well from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, a rare cosmic treat.

Halley's Comet was last seen from Earth in 1986 and won't appear again until 2061. The comet also produces a second meteor shower called the Eta Aquarids in May when Earth passes through the debris stream again.

If Congress were made 'part-time', we could hire 2 for each and they would be forced to accomplish the work.

They can try to divert from the fact that the tea party and GOP are racists.... But the facts tell the story.
Back to republican logic, repeat it often enough it becomes fact.
All the Youtube videos prove they are nothing but racist trash.
End of story.
They are fauxbox brainwashed lemming tools. Pathetic liars. I have posted an article almost everyday where they prove what racist they are. Just look at them proudly waving that Confederate Flag at the White House for the very racial meaning most see it as such. They were disgusting all through both elections and will be until HILLARY takes over. Everyone knows that and we won't forget come election time.
