Believe it or not, the federal deficit has fallen faster over the past three years than it has in any such stretch since demobilization from World War II.

In fact, outside of that post-WWII era, the only time the deficit has fallen faster was when the economy relapsed in 1937, turning the Great Depression into a decade-long affair.

If U.S. history offers any guide, we are already testing the speed limits of a fiscal consolidation that doesn't risk backfiring. That's why the best way to address the fiscal cliff likely is to postpone it.

You must be talking reduction as a percentage of GDP. For me I would like to see spending cuts and tax increases. The danger that rising interest rates pose combined with a budget that is already way out of balance is a risk that we do not need to take and would be foolish to take at this time.

Business scholar says president was 'shallow,''flippant' in 1970s class

Tsurumi—now a professor of international business at Baruch College in the City University of New York—said he remembers the future president as scoring in the bottom 10 percent of students in the class.

The White House did not reply to requests for comment on Bush’s time at HBS.

Tsurumi said he particularly recalls Bush’s right-wing extremism at the time, which he said was reflected in off-hand comments equating the New Deal of the 1930s with socialism and the corporation-regulating Securities and Exchange Commission with “an enemy of capitalism.”

“I vividly remember that he made a comment saying that people are poor because they’re lazy,” Tsurumi said.

Tsurumi also said Bush displayed a sense of arrogance about his prominent family, including his father, former U.S. President George H.W. Bush.

“[George W. Bush] didn’t stand out as the most promising student, but...he made it sure we understood how well he was connected,” Tsurumi said.“He wasn’t bashful about how he was being pushed upward by Dad’s connections.”

Tsurumi said that the younger Bush boasted that his father’s political string-pulling had gotten him to the top of the waiting list for the Texas National Guard instead of serving in Vietnam. When other students were frantically scrambling for summer jobs, Tsurumi said, Bush explained that he was planning instead for a visit to his father in Beijing, where the senior Bush was serving at the time as the special U.S. envoy to China.

I haven't seen any indication of rising interest rates. Actually, they just went down again.

You won't see any indication of them until they are here.

Inflation will cause a rise in interest rates which will cause further inflation....... It is a vicious cycle that feeds on itself.

Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, George Soros, hundreds of thousands of military members, the Patriotic Millionaires (an actually group, you can look them up) and many, many others.

The only thing I have ever said about race and the Republican or Democrat party is that there were probably about as many that voted for Obama because he is black as supported McCain or Romney because they are not black. You want to go further than that, go for it.

I see who pays the government by state. Red states are takers for the most part and Blue states are producers for the most part. Have you looked at how poorly a farm job pays? MOst agricultural jobs are eligable for public assistance. You are free to talk about the lazy farmers just wanting stuff for free. Heck, they pay the workers like crap and then they take farm subsidies on top of it.

Red states also tend to be the ones that are less educated. Want to discuss that?
