Don't assume just because inanimate objects get you excited and hard gets other excited and hard by them as well.

Once again, failed logic.

The United States is the most gun-obsessed of any modern societies. You can bet, when it’s time to defend gun rights, the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is never far from being invoked.

One must understand that, back in the days, Negroes outnumbered whites for most of the south, and the state militia were used to both prevent and put down slave uprisings. History tells us that – slavery can only exist in the context of a police state, and the enforcement of the Southern police state was the explicit job of the militia – as protected by the Second Amendment. Also, leading up to the Revolutionary War, British Lord Dunsmore offered freedom to slaves who could escape and join his forces, enticing many Southern slaves to flee northward. Ultimately, numerous freed slaves served in Gen. Washington’s army.

Originally, there were state-mandated militias nationwide. In the South these were called “slave patrols,” and were used to suppress slave uprisings, to keep them in chains on the plantation and to round up runaway slaves. Militia laws in the Southern states required most white men between the ages of 18 to 45 to own a gun and be a member of one of these militias. Southern states’ slave militia remained in place until the end of the Civil War and the passage of the 13th through 16th Amendments, when they converted to vigilante groups, the best known being the Ku Klux Klan. However, the Second Amendment remained intact, though its original purpose became obsolete.

Madison’s first draft of the Second Amendment, as encouraged by Thomas Jefferson, was:“The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, and well regulated militia being the best security of a free country, but no person religiously scrupulous of bearing arms shall be compelled to render military service in person.”
To appease the Southern states’ powerful slave-holding politicians, the language was edited and made unambiguous.

Madison subsequently changed the word “country” to “state” and rewrote the Second Amendment as thus:“A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Madison could never have imagined that one day his slave patrol militia amendment would be used to protect the right of gun manufacturing corporations — now declared a person by our Supreme Court — aided and abetted by the NRA. The right-wing Supreme Court recently broke with centuries of precedent by deciding that the “militia” phrase was mere “throat-clearing” and that the right to keep and bear is an individual right.
You just can't help spreading your propaganda can you?

It's difficult, but we conservatives do it everyday when debating liberals.

Even though you are incorrect about what guns are specifically made for, lets say you are correct. Get over it! So freaking what? Keeping and bearing them is a constitutional right! Stop whining about it and address the real problem. Look at who commits gun crimes! That is what needs addressing.

Huff Post is a left-wing source for the most part. In debate, I often try to use left-wing sources when I find ones that actually tell the truth. If I use anything else, the libs make claim my sources are biased and therefore unreliable. If I use one of their own....... well then, what can they say? That the left-wing source is lying???

Excellent post. One item for me to address with a different take;
"But what I will conclude from these studies is that there is not an increase in armed citizenry. A decrease? Possibly. But certainly not an increase."
"Sure, they may survey, use new gun purchases, used gun purchases, but because we have no strict system where everybody must register all firearms, there is no scientific way to tell."
My take on this, from my own first hand experience serveral years ago with a survey...as a gun owner, having been "targeted" generically in the news media with continued contempt over the years...I wouldn't reveal any information on a telephone survey regarding my gun ownership.
Maybe that's just me...but I'm willing to bet there's more than just me not giving out that type of information on some telephone survey. So for me, I also take that into consideration whenever I see or hear that gun ownership is decreasing.
That's why they say there is no real way to tell. Heck, if you bought a hot gun off somebody in the street, you sure as hell are not going to tell anybody, especially if you are a convicted felon. Then we have to consider all those gun buy-back programs the police run. They have them all the time here in Cleveland. They net hundreds and hundreds of guns. Those guns are melted down at the steel mills. I know this for a fact because a friend of mine works at the mills and has melted down a few batches himself.

Of course, I am a proud gun owner and CCW license holder. But my sister doesn't own a gun. Neither does her daughter or my parents. None of my aunts own firearms and most of my uncles. There are a lot of people who don't own guns or have even fired one in their life. Heck, I even have a few close friends who don't own firearms. They feel no need to own a weapon because they live in nice areas where it would be rare event to be attacked.

Yet, with 70 Million guns out there, people are not killing each other in ratioed quantities.
Must be the personal responsibility thing going on, eh?

The fact is the US of A is by far the most gun crazy modern country in the world and has by far the most gun related death in the world and you are celebrating it ... I'm glad your happy in your ignorant bliss. Your “responsible,” gun toting, citizen is only responsible until he isn’t ...
In its entire history Canada has had 11 school shootings with one death per incident. The United States, meanwhile thanks to the NRA, has had school shootings in every decade since the 1850. In the last two month alone, there where eight freaking gun attacks in schools. It’s getting worse instead of better, perhaps even exponentially so.

If we do not focus on those who would commit such an insane act instead of focusing on their tools we will continue to see these types of crimes.

It will be a god damn shame the day someone walks in to a school with an ax just to prove the gun banners wrong.

Did you count Kent State University as a school shooting? Probably not.
Guns are to maintain personal freedom.
There are more deaths by drunk drivers every year in the US yet you do not decry alcohol and demand banning it. Why not?

BTW, whiz-kid, the highest areas of gun violence in our country are the areas with the strictest gun laws: Washington, DC, Chicago (home of messiah), detroit, MI, the list goes on. But, hey, don't use facts or anything just pluck a few more heart strings to sway your debate.

What a laugh! Libbies are just too smart for us!

"Colorado Rep. Diana DeGette (D), the lead Democratic sponsor of a federal bill to ban high-capacity magazines, is apparently unaware that such magazines can be reloaded and reused, according to a comment she made at a Denver Post-sponsored forum on gun control on Tuesday.

When asked how limiting the number of bullets in magazines would help reduce violence, she replied:“I will tell you these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those now, they’re going to shoot them. So if you ban them in the future, the number of these high-capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time, because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available.”

Some audience members laughed, but gun-rights advocates weren’t amused."

Ask yourself, why are Americans so gun crazy? Is it because we love killing people or the ability to do so?

You know, the US of A has the highest percentage of their population locked up behind bars compared to the rest of the industrialized world. Now why is that? Is it because our prisons are nothing but playgrounds with virtually nothing to fear?

If you want my gun, then you have your legislatures do things that protect me and my family. Things like instant death penalties for murderers instead of a convict waiting 20 years to be executed. How about chopping off the hand of thieves? That would solve a lot of theft in this country. It works well in the middle-east. Or how about taking away those football fields, pool tables and workout rooms many of our prisons have? If they want exercise, let them take sledge hammers and bust big rocks into little ones. In fact, lets force them to do it.

Well we all know we can't do that. Too many liberals and liberal judges stopping us. That's why I need my gun.
