Hillary for President? Announcing as Independent?

Hillary still has time to file.

Women and Latinos would come out in record numbers to support her as an Independent, and with the support she already has, she would put the fear of God into both 'official' parties. She would take many votes from both Obama and McCain.

But, would Hillary destroy her career in the Democratic Party to become an Independent? There's no guarantee she wouldn't. She has to have seen how Joe Lieberman winning as an Independent has held the Democrats in the Senate hostage to his one vote and this is a woman who loves wielding power.

Plus there's little doubt in my mind that the DLCers who have long been part of the Clinton regime wouldn't appreciate a pull away from a Democratic Party that has generally been shifting more and more to the left while completely isolating and eliminating any influence the DLC once had.

This could happen and ultimately could be the larger doomsday scenario towards the Democratic Party's chances at the White House in November, thereby ensuring Hillary has a shot in 2012.

Her best bet is to continue doing just what shes doing. Work behind the curtain to get McCain Elected and then run in 2012 again. If Obama gets in she'll have a hard time doing that. I wouldn't vote for her and don't really care what she does...but running independent would ruin her in the party.

She could start a third party...Gingrich seems to think the political atmophsphere right now is ripe for one......this bail out sure does stink! Glad it went down in flames!
