Most of the wealthy people I know worked hard and made major sacrifices to get the money they have. Poor people value other things-not hard work and personal sacrifice. They do not deserve to be middle class. Our government is taxing the middle class to support the lower classes-I actually don't like the word "class"-let's just call them poor/low income and mid-level wage earners. After all, money does not really determine class-education and behavior do that. The rich will be rich, but I see my happy middle income life going slowly down the tubes as I am taxed into poverty and subservience to the government. I would prefer independence, wouldn't you? I hear you and agree with a lot of what you said. I just don't like to give up on people. You're correct "class" isn't a good description, low/middle income is better. My husband and I have worked very hard and sacrificed quite a bit to get where we are. I must admit that I have heard a lot of whining going on lately and frankly I would like to smack some people with a newspaper and say Stop whining and be thankful for what you do have! That being said I would like to see everyone prosper and I would like us all to be healthy and to live in a country that cares about its citizens. I would like to see this happen in America during my lifetime, but I don't think that will happpen anytime soon. Some European countries really have gotten it right!

So, why are you and your fellow Democraps celebrating???

Dixie lady, while I can understand some things you lay out, here is JUST ONE person who has dropped from "middle class" to ?. Having worked for 34 years, and considering myself lower middle class, bringing home $40,000 a year, then getting laid off after 29 years with the same company, losing my health care, dental and vision coverage, I find it hard to hear your opinion that I must enjoy this situation. The days I endure are not pleasurable. The best I can hope for is some minimum wage job, but then I would make less than what unemployment offers. I am just scrapping by as it is. My reasons for being against this new Obama health care program is because I cannot afford it. Being it will be MANDATORY I suppose my punishment will be fines and jailtime. In the end, I guess that jail will certainly be better than homelessness.

What you`re is mostly true with hard work, sacrifice, being frugal, etc that eventually you`ll become middle class or wealthy. However, there are things like the poor having bad attitudes, wrong values, personality defects, mental health problems, instant gratification, congenital genetic syndromes like Asperger syndrome, bad sense of entitlement, and just bad luck. These things seldom can be helped.

People can change, I just don't think they will change if we make laziness too comfy for them.

I just don't think that being dysfunctional should qualify a person for wrap around government care, do you? The only "incurable defect" you mention is Asperger's and many with that are very successful.

How would you like to be unemployed and have to pay over $1400 a month for health care. Where the hell is the money coming from?

You must be talking about Cobra?......I was offered that too. I could not pay that. I thought a roof over my head trumped healthcare. If you are currently paying that, stop. It is cheaper to just go to the doctor, but if you have an emergency, as I did, you probably won't be able to pay that bill. But go anyway. Tuck your pride in your pocket. Just know that there are many people in the same situation who were once contributing members of society now forced into poverty. Good luck in your job search.
