Apparently Mr/Mrs. IPS hasn't been to a game this season. With the new seats, The Jungle holds just over 1,200.
It was previously listed as 2,000, but held approximately 1,700.
You're right, I haven't been to the gym since the new seats. Why on earth would they make it smaller?

That's still not addressing the bigger issue...recruiting. The best talent IUPUI is going to get is from the in-state recruits, correct? It's going to be hard to compete with Ball State, Evansville, Valpo, and Butler without a decent facility. Heck, most of these kids have bigger gyms in high school.

Ron Hunter has done a great job at IUPUI over the years. I am surprised he has not received an opportunity to coach at least a high mid-major level school yet.

It's not 'smaller', it just holds fewer. The new seating is a SIGNIFICANT upgrade, making it possible to sell more reserved season ticket packages.

Coach Hunter WANTS to build the program around in-state kids. I think it's fair to say that Hill, Patterson and Montgomery are pretty strong recruits. Larry Stone, one of next year's signees, is a big pickup too.

I don't like the idea of IUPUI playing at Conseco Fieldhouse for the long term. It's too big, and the rental rates could be a challenge. It would feel very, very empty even with the upper deck cordoned off. However, it might be a good temporary solution, and it's less than a mile from campus.

Imagine showing a recruit a 1,200-seat practice facility, an NBA arena (albeit a largely empty one) for games for the first couple of years and then a new, state-of-the-art arena on campus with about 5,000 seats. The Jags could share with the Indiana Ice and maybe even the Fever.

That will get top recruits in the door.
