I met two very nice WVU fans last night in the Carrier Dome, unfortunately they were the only two people who were not RUDE and OBNOXIOUS. What your people can't seem to comprehend that on any given day a highly ranked teamcan LOSE...Personally you are OVER RATED..........

Miss Patti, as a WVU fan, and a former resident of Upstate NY, I am sincerely sorry you experienced what you did in WVU fans at the Dome. Having spent many years in West Virginia, I can honestly tell you the two people you met, who you liked, are more the norm. Yes, I know we can be a rowdy bunch, but we're honorable people.
I'm sorry you feel that WVU is "OVER RATED.........." as you chose to frame it. Logic dictates you also feel that Syracuse is not a very good team. I agree with your statement; I disagree with your logic. If anything, Syracuse is underrated. They're brimming with potential, and you experienced their full potential Friday night. For a team which lost in the Dome to Rutgers, had to come back against Tulane & Wake Forest, actually struggled against FCS opponent, Rhode Island, AND were the beneficiaries for the win, due to an outrageous call by the officials against Toledo, they put on one hellofa show. My hat's off to em. You should be proud of em as well.
I will add this: I wasn't at all impressed with the officiating, nor the sportsmanship of the Syracuse players during the game. Had the officials chose to make calls when they should have, I don't think it would have made a difference in the bottom line, but I can't help being disappointed with the obvious late hits on WVU's QB, Gino Smith. I counted at least three times where he had released the ball, followed through, and dropped his arms while looking at whether or not he'd completed the pass, before he was hit - no call ever! On at least four occasions, a WVU player was hit well out of bounds, or well after he was downed by the officials. WVU's DE, Bruce Irvin, was unjustly flagged for pulling his arm free from a Syracuse linemen who actually refused to let go well after the whistle. The TV commentators actually commented on the mistake the officials made in that case. On another play, after the whistles blew a half dozen times, a Syracuse TE was still blocking a WVU defender - pushing him many yards past the play. A WVU player was even knocked down by a Syracuse player in front of an official, well after a play was dead. That one made the highlight real. It wasn't until late in the 3rd qtr when a Syracuse lineman, of all people, was actually flagged for unnecessary roughness. None of them were flagged for holding, and they held a lot. In fact, Syracuse was flagged for all of 3 penalties for a total of 25 yards all game long. Trust me; it wasn't because they were playing a clean ball game.
So, as you can see, we both have our beefs. In the grand scheme of things, however, it matters not. History will record that Syracuse won 49-23, and rightfully so. May they continue to play as well as a team as they had Friday night. Thanks for listening.
