i have been a mountaineer fan since the early sixties. Garrison , who is aloser, made this choice as a knee jerk reaction. It was wrong, in two years, it will prove me right. I wish not, but it's gong to be a sad day for wvu.

it amazes me how little interest there is in wvu football, at michigan's comment sites, it's constantly being added to.. it's a shame it's so hard to fill the stadium at wvu, i know it's a small state, but give me a break, where is the school spirit, it's just like BB, wvu is thinking about reducing the allotment to students because they don[t show up forgames, it's a wonder huggins stays around

my guess is that you are a michigan fan from ohio...then you would have known that filling our stadium is no problem. hell, you have no idea of the spirit of a mountaineer....and the next time ask your mother if you can get access to the computer.

i have two degrees from wvu, i was born in wva, i attend football games every year, i see the stands, by half time, over half of the students have left.I see articles about bb games, how the administration is thinking about reducing tickets to students because the arena is not filled. Exactly what more does the student body want from the athletic dept. they win, and win big, you tell me why students don't show up

Tiger, I've been following this debate and am glad I've waited to respond. You are far from bein the only one who has voiced this concern. I too was concerned over Coach Stewart's hiring under the circumstances with which it was done. I even had a short list of options who I thought might have been better choices. While there is certainly the chance that we both may be proved right (Like yourself, I sincerely hope this to be otherwise.), I find one has to be impressed with what has transpired since Stewart has taken over as WVU's HC.

First off, he was made interim HC at a time of turmoil. The entire team was down over the circumstances with which Rodriguez left for MI. Some of the coaching staff was also leaving, most of whom were following Rich Rod. As interim HC, with nothing to look forward to, other than eventually losing his job to the new HC, Stewart still managed to rally his team and depleted staff, deflect the distractions surrounding the Rodriguez debacle, and not just lead the team to compete well, but actually win the Fiesta Bowl against arguably the best team in the country.

Since having been named HC, Stewart has taken the criticism from fans and pundits alike, including accusations of racism, with dignity and grace. He even held together the bulk of the recruiting class originally sought, then managed a couple of brilliant picks which Rodriguez had nothing to do with.

He's been swift, decisive, and fair with his decision making, with regards to troublesome players; i.e. the recent three player drug ring.

Finally, the coaching staff he put together is outstanding. Though, I must admit; I expect a couple of them to move on in a few years, if not sooner, to bigger and better things. The good news: Most of them came BACK, because they hadn't wanted to leave in the 1st place. Stewart has found a way to bring, and maintain, stability to the program.

Now, I admit; none of these things in-of-themselves or even collectively add up to a consistent winner. That still remains to be seen. Given the condition of the defense, despite the help coming in, a repeat of last year's success may be a stretch. The point is I don't care who the HC is; there are going to be growing pains. While a win in one big game proves nothing, one disappointing season would prove nothing either. Therefore, lets set aside our skepticism for a little while and lend him our support, at least until he should prove deserving of otherwise. Just a thought.

i do support him and wvu, always will, i felt he was hired in haste,by a very poor administrator, who ,himself , should be fired . I anticipate four losses this season, and more the next. I don't know if stew can withstand the scrutney. He seems like a nice guy, but that's what they thought at VMI, when they hired him. He seems like a good coach, but why did RR demote him? If he and the assist. can recruit, we have a chance. The big east is getting better, i don't want a Louisville season for sure. Hopefully, these assistants are worth their salaries. I don't know, i have no evidence that they are any better than RR's guys.how people can say they are a great staff, i guess someone needs to define what "great" is.,,,, i just hope for the sake of the school, it turns out for the best. with all the hell that is going on there with Garrison, wvu needs a boost.

Garrison is a putz. There. Enjoy it. However, there is a plan that you aren't seeing. Holliday is the "coach in waiting", who is intended to step in once Stewart takes care of the next couple of years. How else would a HC finalist take an assistant coach job? Yes, Stew is a caretaker. So what - they reloaded with a very deep coaching bench and a very good transition plan. I think things will be ok. And they'll be tougher to defend with a more varied offense. Did you notice that the quality of the recruits for 2008 and 2009 actually went up after the change?

WVU needs a boost. I agree. Heather Bresch should enroll in the other classes she needs for her MBA and actually earn the degree. I know, it will take a couple of years, but I had to take all of the classes for my MBA, and so should everyone else.

As for the students, they pay for those tickets. If they want to party at half, that's their privilege. If their tickets are unsold, then the University should allow the public to take those seats. But if they pay for the tickets, it's not anyone else's business what they do with them.

who says Doc is qualified to be a head coach? Bulldozer, i don't go along with your plan.WVU is waiting to see how the coach at central michigan, and tulsa pan out.. They are both head coaches..Doc does not want to be a HC.He has said as much. I do believe when stew gets fired, that Doc will be retained in some capacity.Once Garrison is disposed of, and Walker is run off, we can reestablish the athletic dept. with good people...maybe that would be Doc as the ad.
