OK, doubters -

After looking at all the backup stiffs and open spots from free agent losses, I'm going to go on record and say that every one of these 8 picks will make the final roster this year. They might not get more than a couple future starters out of this draft, but any rookie who makes the roster is either filling a need by winning a spot left open by injuries or free agency, or making the team better by beating out current backups:

Chris Cook -- they lost one CB - the awful Karl Paymah. Instant upgrade!(I'm not even counting Sheppard, because he only signed a one year deal).

Toby Gerhart -- fills Taylor's role, and will crush Taylor's 3.6 ypc average in '09.

Griffen -- will easily knock off Jayme Mitchell or Michael Montgomery, and be ready to replace Ray Edwards if he leaves via free agency next year, or at least become the primary backup behind Robison.

DeGeare -- they already have an open spot from losing Hicks, and still have backups Pat Brown, Chris Clark, and Drew Radovich. Who? Yeah, that's what I said. DeGeare is huge, and beats out at least one of those backups.

Triplett -- If Henderson can't come back, Brinkley starts and Triplett fills that empty spot. At the very least, he competes with ILB Jeremy Leman. Bonus points if you've ever even heard of Jeremy Leman. Triplett makes the roster.

Webb -- Reynaud moved to RB, so they're one WR short from last year. He's much bigger than Reynaud, and even a little faster.

Shuler -- This one seems the most questionable, but TE Garrett Mills never plays. They can at least replace him with someone younger.

D'Imperio -- Being moved to FB. Only competition to beat is Tahi, who nobody offered to sign as a free agent last month.

It would be nice to see the Vikes further upgrade their DT and C/OG positions. Get some beast out there. Perhaps an inside bull rusher and an offensive hog.

I thought Tahi was considered a superb blocking back.

They brought him in for a tryout. This kid is a legitimate franchise QB possibility. The only thing holding him back was himself.

If he grew up, he has all the tools including proving himself on the big stage in the SEC championship game.

Well, before Tahi they used Tony Richardson, and AP broke off a lot of long runs.

Since Tahi took over that role, AP can hardly break through the line.

I'd say Tahi's out.

Hear a lot about the Vikes as a team built for "now". Time to plan for the future. Perrilloux should be our developemntal QB, trade Sage or T-Jack. Keep Webb, trade/release Lewis. Trade Tahi, keep D'Imperio. Shuler needs to prove he can beat out Mills.
