Prior to Gates' speech, Jesse Burnette stood in front of his fellow graduating cadets and introduced himself to the crowd of families and friends. "For those of you who don't know me, I'm a small-town Southern man from Marion, N.C.," said Burnette, this year's valedictorian, his voice thick with the drawl of his home state. Full Story

That is great info. Sometimes I do get down on the educational system here. Both of my kids were taught creationism by different science teacher who said they had been doing it for years with no intervention. Son's English teacher discusses her personal life- break up with boyfriends etc. Kids love it because they do not have to work when she is out of sorts. Computer teacher talks with his wife on cell phone on daily basis during class- much personal info heard by kids. Science teacher talks on cell phone during class. Puts kids down to whomever she is talking to. School condoned giving a non-married teacher a baby shower during school hours. One of our school board members had a sexual relationship with one of her students back in the 80's and that is fairly well known information. The school has tolerated sexual harassment in the athletic dept for years. In all, I can count on one hand the outstanding teachers my kids have had. I know many folks have had better experiences. I'm sure many students have gone on to success. Just hope mine do.

He may be achieving great things and doing very well but it must be terrible to be living his fathers dream huh? This guy is racist and bad mouths homosexual people, in school he was a total asshole and didn't care what he sad or did to other people, just as long as he got ahead. Its sad that such a person is seen for what he is not.
Just coming from someone that actually went to school and knows how this person is.

Just because someone can wear a uniform does not mean they are changed.

it is very disheartening that even when something positive is posted on this board that you people will find a way to ruin it. obviously, to your dissatisfaction, there are many good, well educated people to come out of this system. even when they do have sorry upbringings. just imagine if the parents held themselves half as responsible as they do the schools. i, personally, think the person that my son becomes reflects much more on me than what school system he is in. congrats to this young man. i don't know him, but i do know that people do mature and i am sure he is not the person that he was in highschool still today (unlike some of you...)

Burnette known also for being forced to endure an Administrative pushed HC charge that he knew was false, and charges were ultimately dropped. He vaguely alluded to this mistreatment during our speech. Another reason the class wanted him to speak on graduation day. Congratulations to him, I know he will do well in his career.

What do you mean "you people"? but seriously, i do agree with you. It seems that some people only live to tear down other people. What have you "enlightened" done with your life?
