This goes out to David Watford. The decision you are about to make is an important one. The fan of each school wants you to do that which will benefit their school's team. Admittedly, that includes me; I'm a WVU Mountaineer fan. I would like to see the right athletes come to Morgantown to help that team be more successful.
However, the question isn't about what I want. The question is, in fact, what do you want? That's what's important. It's not about what fans want; it's not about what your coach wants; it's about what you want. What is best for you?
I will admit, like your coach, I'm not an Al Groh fan. That doesn't mean he and his staff are unable to coach you well. Not to mention, UVA is a fine school. If it has the top-notch programs you're looking for, you should strongly consider it.
VA Tech has always been a big, emotional rivalry with WVU; a rivalry which, sadly, has been suspended (Temporarily, I hope.). Everyone knows Beamer Ball; they've been consistently successful; the coaching staff is top-notch. It's also a darn good school; I know people who have gone there; they are among the best with whom I work. But again, does it have what you're looking for.
WVU is considered "Tier 3". The lowest of the academic institutions. I'm a chemist at a nuke plant earning a decent salary. They sure did well by me. Not to mention, there are a number of programs and departments at WVU which are ranked in the Top-5. Suffice it to say, you can get a quality education there. Not to mention, it's coaching staff pushes the importance of a good education, up to and including attendance in the class room. Coach Stew is an inspirational leader who has done quite well for himself in his 1st two years at the helm. Yet again, if WVU doesn't offer what you're looking for, you're wasting your time.
My advise to you: Take your time; think it through. By all means get more advise; ask questions. But in the end, what your head AND heart tells you, that should be the direction in which you go. I hope it's WVU. God bless you and yours.
