To all those VCU Ram fans-

The beloved Rams may not have made it to the Final Four in this March Madness Competition, but they played their HEARTS out and that is why we LOVE VCU RAMS' Basketball. With that being said, we might not be preparing to go to Atlanta to cheer the Rams to victory...this year...but there are other ways that we can support our team and our school.

During Round 1 of the competition, the Rams were nominated for the Pontiac Game Changing Performance along with Texas, Winthrop and Nevada. VCU's game changing play has once again been nominated as a FINALIST for the Pontiac Game Changing Performance.

The voting has already begun and continues until Saturday night. If we win, our school will be rewarded a monetary gift at the Championship game on April 2nd. Go to www.ncaasports.com/pontiac and vote for VCU, pass along to fellow students, friends, alumni and fans. Ohio State and Georgetown are also nominated. Let's show our true school spirit and show our team that we will always be behind them, no matter what!

The VCU Rams waited what seemed an eternity for their name to be called this Sunday during CBS’s Selection Sunday NCAA tournament special. After the long wait, VCU received an 11th seed and will face the 6 seeded UCLA Bruins.“When you talk about UCLA you start talking about National titles…but that’s in the past.” says Senior guard Eric Maynor.

UCLA Coach Ben Howland is quoted as being the underdog,“We’re the underdog now, so we’re only worried about one game,” he said after he let his team know in advance that they would probably end up in Philly against VCU. The Rams will tip off in Philadelphia on thursday against UCLA.

Ultimate Shout Out: Lil Wayne to Larry and Eric

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/160698 ... ayne.jhtml

I know a lot of you old timers could probably care less about a guy named "Lil Wayne" who has dreadlocks and a tear drop tattoo...BUT, anytime someone from New Orleans who's popular with the "younger generations"...who had a Grammy nomination for album of this year this year, has sold millions of records.....and name drops not only Eric Maynor...but Larry Sanders...I think it's pretty cool.

"Shout out to Maynor and Sanders I love those boys" - Lil Wayne

Watch the video on that link because he actually name drops Maynor as well, which they didn't quote him for in the typed up version.

VCU athletic director Norwood Teague hasn't wasted any time targeting candidates in replacing Anthony Grant. Just hours after finding out that Grant was leaving for Alabama after three seasons and a pair of NCAA tournament appearances, Teague jumped on a plane and headed to interview one of the nation's elite assistant coaches - Texas' Russell Springmann. Springmann, 39, is the guy who helped get Kevin Durant, D.J. Augustin and Damion James to Austin. According to sources, Teague will interview Springmann - a Maryland native - and also Florida assistant coach Shaka Smart on Saturday

VCUMT upsets #10 Louisville
http://vcuathletics.tv/mte/09results/lo ... e-0403.php

It's been a relatively rough year by VCUMT standards due to injury, but looks like the team may be rounding into form just at the right time. They should be heavy favorites to win the CAA and get to the NCAAs once again.

BRIAN WALLACE LEADS RAMS AT COLONIAL RELAYS
Sophomore posts three top-10 finishes

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.– Among some of the toughest competition it had faced all year, the Virginia Commonwealth University men’s track & field team had to battle through very tough wind conditions at the Colonial Relays this past weekend.

However, sophomore Brian Wallace (Portsmouth, Va.) had no problem with it. Wallace collected three top-10 finishes, including a victory in the long jump, to lead the Rams, who posted seven top-10 finishes as a team.

Wallace started his weekend off with a leap of 23’ 8 ¼” to capture the long jump title. His success continued in the triple jump with a seventh-place finish after a mark of 45’ 1 ½” in the event.

The sophomore returned to the track on Saturday to run the third leg of the 4x400 meter relay which also finished seventh with a time of 3:17.46.

Classmate Brandon Allen (Trenton, N.J.) also had a strong weekend with two top-10 finishes after a time of 11.03 in the 100-meter dash (ninth-place) and running the anchor leg of the fourth-place 4x100 meter relay team who clocked in at 42.20.

Junior Piotr Dybas (Jaslo, Poland) kept his strong spring season going with a fifth-place finish in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:36.16.

Other highlights included a top-10 finish from junior Dwayne Handon (Fairfax Station, Va.) in the long jump and a personal best for sophomore Joe Edwards (Virginia Beach, Va.) in the triple jump.

The Rams return to action next weekend in the prestigious Lou Onesty/Abramson Invitational, the final meet before the Black & Gold’s trip to the CAA Championships on April 17th-18th.
