You sure are not going to get a very well known coach or NFL assistnt for that kind of money.

As Hal Mumme exits through the door at NMSU, so should AD McKinley Boston, he knew the "baggage" that Hal Mumme brought to NMSU and its apparent after four years that it translated into a four year losing campaign, a very bad choice, and he is responsible, now having said that we all know McKinley Boston isnt going anywhere, so here's my two cents worth of Monday arm-chair quaterbacking, "if" by chance Barney Cotton should re-applies for the head coaching job, Boston should hire him on the spot. Barney Cotton was a successful offensive coordinator under Coach Samuals at NMSU, Cotton then went to Nebraska as the head offensive coordinator and in his first year there they went to a bowl game and won, after that year Barney Cotton went to Iowa State as the head offensive coordinator and for three years the Cyclones were in bowl games. He knows the recruting area for NMSU as well as anyone, he's obviously a good coordinator and would have no problems handling "external" activities as Mr. Boston is looking for, but for some reason Mr. Boston elected to go with Hal Mumme and his "baggage"!

Who knows, if Mr. Boston would had made the right choice he would have come out smelling like Obama, and I know Las Crucens would love that!

Keep Mumme. Reduce his pay to $50,000 since he is only a coach. But keep him as the shining example as the front-man for the regents and NMSU's cultural prejudice. His pay should have been docked for the money paid out in the prejudice lawsuit and then fired.

One bad hire guys.. and really... it wasnt his hire. It was Faisons. Boston brought in Theus and Menzies. We will be fine. I know hes looking at a former coach from the SEC. He has good connections

Not surprised about the firing. Just disappointed they went through all that for nothing. Also disappointed that NMSU did all this denying that Mumme was gonna get fired. They should have just said no comment. hahaha but then again it isn't their fault somebody opened their big mouth and spilled the beans to the tv stations.

Kathy, you're so right. I know Dr. Johnson and, not only does he have football connections, but he also has his heart in the community.

I hope those "advisors" are going to put up the money needed to be successful by making the football program self-supporting through contributions. Maybe if they get the coach they want, they will.

Absolutely! Too few people realize what a gem Charley Johnson is. He was a fantastic NMSU football star, he was a straight A student here (mathematics and science), he went to graduate school at Rice, where he earned his Ph.D., he played pro football and did well there, he is now an NMSU faculty member (chemical engineering), and he would be a tremendous Aggie coach. Hire him as both football Coach AND Athletic Director.

In the meantime, why not arrange right now a game between the current Aggies and Mayfield or Las Cruces?

You say some honest and thoughtful things and then you go and stick your foot in your mouth by making a comment that NMSU should now go and play a high school team. No wonder the Aggies struggle for success the fans no not know what success means.
