Mumme aside, we have almost 50 years without a bowl game. There are bigger and longer term problems than Mumme. We need some honesty in dealing with them, not just wishful thinking.

If Mumme does go, all I can say is HALlelujah that he's finally going after he HALlucinated in thinking that he could actually coach a competitive team.

And for those saps who bought season tickets, remember what P.T. Barnum once said about suckers being born every minute.

"There was disappointment felt from the players, but sometimes it seemed as if the team was just content to be competitive and not necessarily a winning program."

Being a winning program IMHO means being competitive. If Aggie football, whomever the coach is, doesn't believe this than sadly this program will forever be bad. Lets all hope that McKinley Boston can put his tremendous ego aside, admit Mumme was a bad hire and get a coach that is really willing to put his heart into creating a winning program. Someone that won't turn his nose on the community like Mumme often did. And a coach that won't care so much about the style of football but just football that will win games in Las Cruces. At the end of the day fans are more concerned about a team with substance than a team that will put up impressive stats but have nothing in the win column to back those stats up.

Mumme will be soon be a distant mummery.

Let's bring in a young guy to coach the Aggies. Not another retread. Please.

Squished Roadkill has it all wrong. Season tickets are well worth the price. The key is to show up early to see the Pride pre-game show. Get your coke and kettle corn during the first quarter then sit back and wait for the Pride to play half-time! You can bet The Pride is gonna give a great performance every game. After that you can leave or stay and watch the offense pad their stats against the opponent's third-string defense. If we're playing a D-II school we may even be running up the score! Traditionally I rarely stayed past the third quarter this year or in my undergrad years. What I never understood was the football team's undeserved high opinion of themselves after getting whooped on Saturday. It seems to me that their current coach has a very high opinion of himself. WHY???

No, I don't have it all wrong. If your sole reason to go to a football game is to watch the band and eat junk food, then go to a band festival.

I was on the fence about Mumme until this game. I saw pros and cons of both terminating and retaining him. Now I am solidly in the "Fire Mumme" camp.

Granted, the NMSU football program has a lot more problems tham Mumme, but a new coach and new staff with the right attitude about wanting to turn the program around would be a good reboot to the program.

We need some solid talent developers and more support on the recruiting side of the house. If we can build a strong recruiting system, the program and start looking much better in a few years.

Mumme did a horrible job at NMSU for more reasons than just losing (which he was excellent at by the way). He made no effort to reach out to the community. He shut himself in, had a holier-than-thou attitude towards everyone, and acted like he was a god around this town.

When a D-I football coach doesn't have half the respect as the high school football coaches (Miller and Bradley), something is up. I'm pretty certain that either Mumme will be gone or Boston will lose his job for keeping him around, so either way, good things are to come. I know, as most non-delusional Aggie fans, that it will take more than a good coach and two years to fix the problems here, it's a long road, but step 1 is kicking Mumme out of town.

We already have a great coach that wants this job in Barney Cotton current associate head coach at Nebraska and OC at Iowa State. He was OC here under Samuel during the best years and most of all wants to be here and likes the community. He would be able to connect with the community and won't come off as arrogant like Mumme. He is a disciplinarian and will have a football team backed up by substance and not gimmicky stats.

He is not going to instantly turn the program into a winner because the program is in the dumps right now but with him you will see gradual improvement each year.

Come on Dr. Boston do the right thing hire Cotton.

Dr. Boston can fire all the coaches he wants. A revolution of the mind must take place at NMSU not a coaching change. The dominant theme in the athletic department is waste. NMSU's inability to manage and preserve resources is only superceded by their disinterest in the fans. Great seats remain empty at all venues as management attempts to squeeze the community for more money. Then, when it is too late, tickets are given away for a couple of bucks so NMSU can pretend to be a D-1 football program. Dr. Boston calls Las Cruces a "walk up market." He is mistaken, NMSU continuously fosters a disinterested market. NMSU has a shrinking fan base because the fans see waste at every turn. They see overt signs of management's complete indifference to making large crowds the first priority in climbing the ladder of success. New coachs are hailed as qualified to lead a turnaround when they arrive. But administrators continue to claw for money instead of fans. What do administrators do when their policies fail under the latest coaching staff? THEY SAVE THEIR JOBS BY FIRING THE COACHES THEY HIRED! Go ahead and fire the coach, Dr. Boston. Demanding seat license fees from fans after Reggie's first season was a great move. Now the getting rid of Hal Mumme will be the answer to NMSU's football fortunes.

I agree, Barney Cotton is the man for the job. He is an old school, hard working coach. Players will never dare give up on a game or season under Cotton.

Finally, the Aggies can get rid of Mumme and return to the glory days from seasons past. Okay, maybe not. After reading many of the comments, I agree that a change in coaching is a good move. Unfortunately, the program will continue on the same path it has been on for the last 50 years. I would like to be wrong, but I'm afraid I am not.

To Squished roadkill. It is cool to watch the Pride at least they have some pride in their program, unlike the football team. Mumme never seemed to get the players ready to play, they seemed uninspired and not ready to make the big plays when needed. Fire Hal Mumme and bring in someone that the university and community can get behind. Mumme did not mesh with the community and NMSU. He is arrogant and thinks omly of offense. We need someone that can improve defense, otherwise we are looking at another 40 years of no bowls. Please Dr. Boston, bring in a young person that can deal with the players, university and the community. NMSU deserves better!
