I would add, "Find a consistent (in a good way) kicker and punter."

too bad none of the players and may college coaches dont are for Joe Lee Dunn the way that you do. His defense was very confusing all season, was not consistant. He may have a good defensive mind, if you say so, but it sure didnt look that way.

Daily - they do have a good kicker/punter, last name is Lund, was a true freshman. He has good h.s. stats and I've watched him at practice and I dont know why they didnt utilize him. He's better than who they have on the field now. But then again, Mumme didnt utilize a lot of his good players consistantly.

Another thing they can consistently look forward to is losing many many games. It's what we've come to expect from our Team. Every year we know they'll come close but at the end they'll consistently lose. Sorry but the truth hurt's. Like Taxes and Death a Losing Team needs to be added.

Sorry, got to disagree with you on Dunn. His defense was horrible! THey made three good stops this whole season ... otherwise you might have not eve had them on the field. Almost all of our games (most losses) were high scoring ... which means the offenses were doing THEIR jobs, but the defense is on vacation.

Nope, give him one more season, and if he still can't perform, let the new HC bring in whomever HE wants, not saddle him with a guy whose contract you didn't want to buy out when you fired Mumme. He's one of those ghosts from NMSU's past (sure, one season of past, but a poor showing is still a poor showing)

Keep Joe Lee Dunn? Why would any newly hired coach want to inherit staff? Especially a defensive coordinator whose defense was atrocious. Felix must be in good with this guy, because he's been championing him since Mumme was let go. I just don't see it happening.

Wasnt the kicker named to the all wac freshman team?

If Walker is indeed the new coach I dont see a Defensive minded guy keeping someone he didnt hire. I think Dunn needs to vastly upgrade the D if he wants to stay on past the 2009 season. The D gave up 30+ on 9-12 games played, I dont think another D Coordinator who is coming in as a HC will look favorably on those numbers, nor should he. Plus Dunn's D is too much of a gimmick, we need a traditional 3-4 or 4-3 defense.

Whoever the coach is, shouldnt have a hard time winning over the community. Other than Tough Enough to wear pink what did Dumme ever do to rally the City of LC? Nothing. All the new guy needs to do is be friendly and for gods sake leave the golf cart in the tunnel, and the towel in the locker room.

MatHat how can you say the offense was doing its job when in the San Jose State game the offense singlehandedly gave up more points than the defense did.

Not to mention an offense that layed an egg for the second year in a row against Boise,

Or that "High Powered" Aggie Air raid that could only manage to score 14 and 0 points respectively against two of the worst defenses in the WAC that were giving up almost 40 points a game in Idaho and Utah State.

Yeah the defense was definitely the problem this year. lol

As for Joe Lee Dunn if Walker is indeed the next coach he will want to coach the defense himself. If Walker is hired I see no need to keep Dunn. Only keep Dunn if Shultz is hired.

If we do get Walker I hope he brings a good OC with him. An OC with a creative offense that is run first pass second with some option thrown in. No more Air Raid of running up the middle for a loss, sack, interception, quick 2 yard out route to a wide reciever, punt.

LoL ... well you are right, the offense was horrible, but it was better than the defense for most of the season, which was the point I was trying to make.

Dunn is sticking around for at least one more season because NMSU didn't want to buy out his contract along with Mumme's.

The new coach is stuck with him until his contract is up next year, then they can hire someone they want.
