I see it all the time - young kids taking their chances with oncoming traffic. I can only imagine two things are prevalent in thier minds, that either the car won't hit them because they are pedestrians or that they are better than that to get hit. Both are wrong answers, unless you can cross a road wearing a suit that can protect you like a tank from a collision. Think about it, even in a car, getting hit by another car doesn't always protect you. As a pedestrian, you can't take such risks....waiting an extra few seconds until the roads are clear is clearly the only right choice.

what people need to understand is that the kids waited til the walk sign was on the lady who hit my cousin was by the way drunk as this was going and as we were waiting for the investigators got there the lady was laughing and making it seem as if it were no problem so you tell me i believe in many cases people who are driving need to also as well watch what the are doing.

Is your cousin doing better? Our prayers are with him. The news said alcohol was not a factor, so why the cover up? They need to report if she was intoxicated.

It was the driver's fault. Driver's have a responsibility to be on the lookout for pedestrians

Today has been an especially difficult day for me seeing the accident from the beginning, this will stay with me forever. I do need to clarify one thing though, I did see the accident and I must say that there were two other children that crossed the intersection before he tried to do the same. They were bearly missed by a pick-up truck and he was unfortunately struck by the car. It is haunting to me to his motionless body in the street bleeding and not responding, but it was clear that the body crossed in the car's path. The woman who hit this unfortunate boy had just come out of work and was NOT drunk or laughing (we were all crying) and recalling the accident. I really hope that he is ok because everyone deserves a second chance, especially someone as young as him. My prayers will always be with your family. This experience has changed my life and I really wish that he is ok.
P.S. This whole incident could have been avoided if the City put up lights in the neighborhood. The streets are too dark around that area in the Northeast.

I hope this young boy comes through this, and the family is doing okay...prayer is all one can do at this point. pray for him and hold his little hand as he makes his recovery, because children are stronger than we assume, and they are full of miraculous courage. i will pray for him and his family. and the woman who hit the boy, should know that 'pedestrians have right of way'...it is a shame this had to happen, but hopefully this will open the eyes of all the drivers out there to be a little more cautious of their surroundings and pedestrians for that matter.
