As an IU fan, it comforts me knowing this guy got this job. I've heard it reported that Gillispie has had 10 different jobs in 19 years in the business. He's never been around long enough to even coach his own players longer than a year or so! UK needs to recruit, but they also need a coach. I look forward to Sampson teaching this guy a few lessons, like RMK did with Pitino.

Get a life Matt !! Sampson is a joke. The only way Sampson can recruit is to do it over the phone during the "no call" time. And for the record I would take Pitino all day long over RMK.

Well if this isn't odd. An IU fan in Louisville and a Loisville fan in Indianapolis. That funny.

I think that everyone uderestimates what Gillispie is going to bring to Kentucky. A hard worker thats only focus is basketball. He's a single guy who can go recruit with the best of them. He is going to play the style that must be played to win. Kentucky is going to be small in 2007 with Morris leaving and no solid center behind him. They are going to play a 3 guard two forward game (especially if Patterson signs). They are going to have to play up and down to try to not get out matched down low.

He is going to be a smart coach and the fans are going to love him because he seems very passionate. You say he hasn't kept a job over I don't know how many years, but do you know how many were under Self? Had to be quite a few if at Tulsa and Illinois. He has the ultimate job and we can only hope he brings back some banners. As for IU, Sampson is a good coach (yes, good, not great). They will be behind OSU and Michigan State in the big 10. Good luck to you though. We will see next year if IU teaches Gillispie anythings when they play.

Actually, I liked Tubby Smith and wanted Ky to keep him - I enjoyed Ky being a
good also-ran most of the time. Being
a Hoosier, I enjoyed Ky losing to the
likes of Indiana, Tennessee and Florida.
I hope that continues.

1989 IU 71 UK 69
1990 IU 87 UK 84
1991 UK 76 IU 74
1992 UK 81 IU 78
1993 IU 96 UK 84
1994 UK 73 IU 70
1995 UK 89 IU 82
1996 UK 99 IU 65
Pitino vs. Knight: Pitino 5 wins, Knight 3 wins.
So Matt what were those lessons Knight taught Pitino?

I would like to know the overall wins/losses between IU and Kentucky. I'm sure KEntucky holds the edge. Don't shortchange Gillespie, he's smart, he's an excellent teacher and recruiter. He's no longer at a transition school, he's at the top of the heap. If he's there for 15-20 years he's going to own every team he plays overall.

Being from College Station I watched the last time Sampson faced Billy G. there and Oklahoma won in one of the ugliest games you'll ever see. Billy G. was outcoached in several games last year. A team that has good guards that penetrate such as Baylor and Texas Tech can beat Billy G., because he refuses to play anything other than man defense. Knight beat him both times last year. The only thing he knows is hard work which has paid off for him, but not X's and O's. I thought when Kentucky hired him that they weren't going to like his style as he has said himself that we win ugly. How do you feel about hiring a guy that spent up to three years with a bunch of guys and didn't have the decency to go back and talk to them before he took the Kentucky job? Texas Tech sold their soul to the devil to hire Knight and where has it gotten them? Billy G.'s record would be mediocre at best if for not scheduling patsies in the preseason or for Acie Law. I didn't blame him for taking the job at Kentucky, but will never accept him turning his back on his former players. How could he sleep at night? Obviously, there's only one person he cares about.
