I am so proud of my cousin. I knew he played ball and was known but wow! I was his little cousin during his basketball years in high school and was never a sports fan of any kind until my son started playing sports. I told him about our cousin Essie and he was very happy to hear that we have a basketball legend in our family and im proud to say he is my first cousin. I am proud to have met his son and wife too this past weekend and i have been looking up his career too. God bless Damien and take him as far or farther than his dad and May God continue to bless you all

Charlie Hollis was a gentleman too. When I was a freshman at Strong Vincent High School in 1980-1981, he was a senior. Charlie was in the same gym class that I was in. Charlie made my freshman year at Strong Vincent High School a lot easier than it would have been. I was saddened by his death last week. He died way too young.

When it comes to Erie high school sports best of ALL TIME, only Essie Hollis (basketball-S.V.) and Dave Van Volkenburg (baseball-Prep) cannot be disputed...they were head and shouldlers above all others...and both humble gentlemaen to boot.

I loved Essie Hollis, as a kid growing up in Bufflao. He is a alltime St. Bona great! The games in the AUD were great! He and Glen Hagen, man I use to love to see them go at with the Griffs and the Eagles. I would walk to the Aud down Broadway to see those games. No matter what snow, rain, I was there to see those games!! What has happen to St. Bonna Basketball!!
