Officials got it wrong. After the fact replay shows the official game clock -- the clock over the basket was 00.0 while the unofficial mediacom clock on the TV broadcast was not in sync with the offical game clock but was running 00.3 second late and when the official clock read 00.0 the mediacom TV broadcase clock showed 00.3 then when the TV clock ran to 00.1 the tip in went in before the mediacom TV clock read 00.0 but actually 00.2 seconds after the official game clock showed the game was actually over. Evidently, the officials did not check to see whether the TV clock was properly in sync and did not use the official game clock to make their ruling but in the rush after the game just saw that according to the TV broadcast there was still 00.1 seconds left on the TV clock when the ball was tipped.
Evidently, once the official left the floor the game is over; however, where a game if first won by one team (here MSU) and then a TV replay is used by officials to "reverse" the initial decision and "declare a shot good because the TV replay showed time left" the better rule would be to allow a subsequent review which determines that the "TV clock was out of sync and running 00.3 seconds later than the "official clock" and the actual official clock had no time left before that shot, that the ruling "before the officials left the floor" is correctable. This rule should be changed and corrected.
