Those 87/88 teams played so hard throughout the year that they overachieved. They were already playing at their highest level and could not raise it another notch when they ran up against an NBA player like Mitch Richmond. At least that's what I've always believed. I know, who cares?

I though Cuonzo already used up his 4 years of eligibility.

I've never been prouder, not even in '87; when that club was ranked 4th. Unlike then, this team won't let us down.
As a Boiler fan, when have you NOT been let down by your team? Don't they always come up short in the big game?

Purdue may have caught a large break after Cornley broke his tooth, and didn't return. PSU was out rebounding Purdue up until that point. If Purdue doesn't fix that problem,White and I.U. will embarass us in two weeks. As usuall Purdue didn't get that many fast breaks, they haven't all season. That aspect of the game isn't stressed in Coach Painter's game plan as much as other points of emphesis, nor should it be. How ever,if you're not going to fast break, you'd better make darn sure you rebound the ball on the defensive side of the ball. Before Cornley went down,I kept waiting for Purdue to send ALL 5 defensive players to rebound the ball, after PSU's initial shot attempt. Fortunately Cornly's injury didn't permit him to return to the floor, and rebounding was not as significient from there on out. Coach Painter may want to sacrifice fast break opporotunities, and consider sending ALL 5 defensive players to rebound, when matched against a superior rebounding team,LIKE I.U.,Wisconsin,or MSU. I.U.'s D.J. White is by far the best big man in the Big 10,and can easily make the rebounding prowess of PSU's Cornley,at 6'5 look weak. Winning teams usually out rebound their opponents, shoot, and make more free throws, have fewer turnovers, and have more assists. Rebounding seems to be Purdue's biggest concern right now. If I.U. out rebounds Purdue by more than 7,Purdue's chances are slim and none in two weeks.
