"Turner and Lighty combined for 33 of Ohio State's 45 points in the second half, including 29 in a row from 17:38 to 1:59."

I don't think that kind of play, unfortunately, will take them very deep into the tournament. I hope I'm wrong, but they probably need to get everyone more involved.

Watching Purdue/Minnesota afterward- showed who
the class of the Big Ten really is-
Purdue- winning without their star at the Barn.
Bravo to Purdue-
OSU doesn't have the horses to get much past the 1st or 2nd round. I hope I am wrong. Purdue and MSU will advance further- as well as Wisconsin and Illinois.

Different players get hot in different games. You can't expect balanced scoring if the opposition is defending some OSU players intensely and slacking on others. There have been games when Buford or Diebler or even Lauderday/Madsen have had stellar nights.

This is the same exact team as last year but without BJ Mullins. You'd expect them to do worse this year but instead they are doing better. High praise to Thad Matta and this year's Buckeyes for providing such a fun season to watch.

I agree with bsharp. I'm the 1st one to criticize Lighty for his inconsistent play. However, he was Awesome last night. This kid can jump out of an arena. Nice Dunks. As for Evan, he was just being Evan. No doubt he's the Best College basketball player in the country. Diebler has to shoot the ball better. He has those slumps where he'll shoot 8 - 10 times & make 1. Just like the 1st half.
All in all, I thought Ohio State had a nice Win last night. Going on the road in the Big 10 is never easy. Getting a Win is the most important thing.
As for Purdue, they got Lucky last night. They should have lost.

GO BUCKEYES !!!

I'm not exactly sure where Smalls and Robin's analysis are coming from. I have no idea how far this team will go in the tournament. Could lose in the first round, could make it to the Final Four. However, Smalls, two guys got hot for OSU in the second half, what is the problem with that? Buford carried us in the first half. Different players have had great games thoughout the year. I agree that we need some consistancy out of Diebler and others, but the nice thing about this team is we have four guys that could lead the team in scoring on any given night. We can still win if one or two guys have an off night. Was last night the first game you watched all year?

Robin, we don't have the horses to go past the first or second round??? We arguably have the best starting five in the conference, if not the nation! Not to mention probably the best player in the country. I agree that our lack of depth will hurt and could ultimately be our downfall, but if we stay out of foul trouble and avoid injury, the starting five could take us far. BTW, we have beaten all the teams you claim will advance further than us.

This is a very good basketball team when they are focused and playing hard.
I think they can make it to the Elite 8. It's that 4th game against another very good team while having only a couple days rest that will do them in.

I pretty much concur with you. I would add 2 other points about last nights game: First, lets not forget that Diebler hurt his shooting wrist/hand. Seems to me that EASILY could be a BIG DEAL - who is to say otherwise! Secondly, I think we are overlooking the contribution to the teams success from Coach Matta. I do not see nearly enough recognition of just how good this guy is. He DID recognize in the second half that PSU was somewhat ignoring Leighty and so turned him loose. Look what happened! It was like SHAZAM - that kid is really good. BUT my point is Matta created that result!

I believe last night was the game most of us wanted to see. All seven played. Simmons for the first time in a long time. Couldn't really expect more out of Simmons than what he gave.

He or Madison didn't hurt us. They basically did what was expected of them. Rested some of the weary who were getting into foul trouble.

Since last night wasn't a "laugher", I believe it gave them some good game experience also. I expect we will see a little more of them as its getting closer to tourney time. I believe their duties will be, to rest some of the guys and NOT screw anything up. Any points we get from them will be a plus.

I'm not going to complain about the season or the win last night. It has been a wonderful year!

I am curious though as to what happened to Jeremy Simmons and especially Hill. They both played significant minutes last year and this year basically none. It is puzzling. The coach knows better than the rest of us but still...even to a layman it is kind of confusing.

I can offer that even to Jim Jackson it is difficult to understand. You know he knows his basketball. It is hard to imagine that playing 4 players all 40 minutes will get them very far into the tournament either B10 or NCAA. I hope I'm wrong!

Smalls and Robin you are showing you have very little knowledge of the NCAA tournament. The big dance is loaded with examples through the years of teams with 1 great player going very deep including some who have won it all. Carmelo Anthony as a freshman lead Syracuse to a championship with no other NBA talent on the team. And just to prove it doesnt have to be an NBA superstar, Adam Morrison lead Gonzaga to the elite 8. He had no other NBA talent on the team and he is a bit player in the league now. Anybody really think he is better then Evan Turner?

I guarantee this team will make it to the sweet 16 at the worst this year. They will be a number 3 seed, and won't see a really dangerous team before that. Matta plays his starters so much because there is no one on the bench capable! We have lost scholarships because of one and dones and had two talented players transfer leaving us with nothing beyond the top 7, and really the top 5. Quit criticizing and enjoy! I have been to several games this year. They are a very fun team to watch. Go Bucs!

Totally agree Bsharp, these negative people would of laughed at any real Ohio st Fans like us If we told them we would be 22-7 and a 1/2 game out of first. My God what do you people want to make you happy. 100% fg shooting, no fouls, other team does not score. It's amazing some of the negativity that goes around on these post. I repeat we are 1/2 game out of first and a lock for the NCAA tourney, get on board or go away !! Go Bucks !!

So MSU, a team Ohio State just beat in their own arena, will advance farther than Ohio State? You people are incredible.

I agree with most of what you are saying except your guarantee of OSU making it to the Sweet 16. For the sake of this discussion let's assume we get a three seed. We should get a very winnable game the first round. However, the second game will be against the 6/11 winner which can include some very dangerous teams. Last year the 6 seeds were West Virginia, Marquette, UCLA, and Arizona State. There are no guarantees in the NCAA tournament which is what makes it great.

Simmons had an eye problem and I was glad he got some time in....meaning the eye problem is better or now ok. Most papers dwell on the stars and don't say anything about medical or other problems on the bench.

Before I read any of the comment may I first comment on this article. Every time I read the post game chit-chat of the Buckeye players it always reads the same. "We weren't ourselves - we didn't play hard and so forth". Dear players of OSU. PLAY HARD FROM GIT TO GOT. Or however you want to say it. Play hard all the time you are on the court otherwise raise your hand and let your replacement play hard. If you guys can't play hard for an hour or so I would sure hate you working for me because I know you couldn't possibly WORK HARD for 8 hours. Get the point. What are you - a bunch of Maurice Claurets or however you spell that loosers name. Have a great day.

Is Simmons and Hill white or black. Now I have no idea but if they are white then that is why they are not playing. If they are black that just means they are horrible. God Bless!

Care to tell me what the halftime score was when OSU played at Purdue and what the final score was? The class of the big ten doesn't lose 3 conference games and doesn't win by 1 like they did last night. OSU beat Purdue, MSU, ILL at their houses. ILL had the worst home lost ever when we beat them by 19.

After reading most of the posts on here I wonder if the Buckeyes even won the game.

8 point road win in the Big 10 and there's almost nothing but bashing going on in here. Some of you people are incredibly stupid.

If you don't know whether Simmons and Hill are black or white, then you aren't a Buckeye fan, just another troll looking to stir up trouble and convince us all that your post name is accurate.
FYI Simmons and Hill are both black and neither are horrible. They aren't as talented as the starting five or, hey, they'd be starting.

But after such a blatant racist post, please have the decency not to end it with "God Bless". You give Christianity a bad name.

Being that they are a 5-man team I hope they mail it in during the Big-10 tournament so they can rest up for the NCAA tournament. As talented as the 5 are I don't see them running through back-to-back games two weeks in a row through the tournament against good teams. Hope I'm wrong but it's difficult with an unproven bench if you get in foul trouble or if someone gets hurt.
