They have to take shots at PSU basketball, because they get their ass kicked year after year in football.

they play in the weak 11 one of the worst conferences in the country!...the only ass kicking I saw was USC pounding Penn State...good thing Pete Carrol called off the troops in the 2nd half or they could have put 80 points up with no effort

<quoted text>Are you serious...they won the NIT??? Major recruits are going to go to the programs that were in the real NCAA tournament. Get your bait ready for trouser trout season tomorrow!
Not only did they win the NIT, they had a season with about 25 wins, they finished hihger than ever before in the Big Ten (a major conference), and they beat one of the Final Four teams (Michigan St.). Put it all together, and there is no doubt that it will help them with recruting.

And before I get a sarcastic response...of course I realize that Penn State is not currently a national basketball power, and that the true top recruits are going to the Duke's of the world. My point was that the NIT win, as well as all of the other accomplishments above, will increase the visibility of Penn State in attracting recruits who want to play big-time college basketball. It's a building process, and it has been an impressive progression over the last twenty years or so.

penn state needed a prayer , buzzer beating 3 pointer just to force overtime at home against George Mason in the NIT 1st round. They then went on to win the whole thing. Shows you that there isnt much of a difference between these average teams in the NIT. Theres about 15-20 ELITE programs in college basketball. When PSU is one of them then, and only then, will they truly have made it. Until then, take this is for what it is, its like winning the Cable Car Classic or the Maui Invitational...nothing

I agree, it is a step in a positive direction...but when I turn on my $5,000 60 inch pioneer plasma tomorrow night to watch basketball I won't see Penn State!

What we need is a little perspective here. Winning the NIT for Penn State's basketball program is a huge success. Along the way Penn State defeated Florida who was recently a National Champion in men's college basketball. Had Florida went on to defeat PSU and win the NIT it wouldn't really be a big deal considering the success the program has received in the not so distant past.

It's nice that Penn State won but in reality, the NIT is kinda stupid. The NCAA's should have top 40 based on Conf. Champions, Tourney winners, top 25 and such, and then have the next 48 highest rated RPI teams play a win to get in with the 24 winners being the final teams to make 64. That way it involves 88 teams and you don't need an NIT tourney.

hopefully the mc gives credit where credit is actually due and writes a good article on the villanova wildcats tommorrow. They are the real story of the tournament. The "real" tournament anyways. Not the s-h-i-t-t-y NIT

If you are the austin scott that played at Penn St. nobody screwed you out of a professional football career. You weren't good enough. PERIOD!

I am a diehard Penn State fan and I don't understand all the trash talking regarding Penn State and if your not a Penn State fan why you even care to come on and talk about Penn State.Whoever you root for go onto their site and talk about them because you rants on here are meaningless, irrelevant babble that carry no weight and show how much of an moron and a no nothing idiot when it comes to sports that you all really are.First of all the NIT is a prestigious tournament and with a rich history and it is an honor to win it so unless you really understand college basketball and are not just some big mouth that just wants to be heard, like a bratty 10 year old with a big mouth why don't you just shut your mouth and crawl back into whatever cave you crawled out of.Penn State athletics takes a back seat to no school and year in and year out is right there as one of the most successful in the country. And as for Pitt fans Villanova stuffed it right down your throat when it mattered most and you won't get a chance like that anytime soon to go to a Final Four.Yes I'm a diehard Philly sports and Big 5 fan too and I'm proud that 'Nova will always be remembered as Final Four team which in college basketball is royalty and they got a nice shiny trophy for it,the same with the nice shiny trophy Penn State got for winning the Big Ten in football and of course the NIT trophy and all the other PSU titles in athletics the last several years.See Pitt fans and whoever you other slugs are it's all about winning championships and holding the trophies and I have some nice color pictures to hang on my walls with my teams holding those trophies, absolutely priceless I might add. What exactly do you have and as for Pitt athletics you can't hold Penn State's jocks when it comes to sports. In fact with us hiring the best wrestling coach in the country with his recruting pedigree it will only be a matter of time to we get our second overall wrestling title as well.So your trash talk or your feeble attempt at it is so hollow because just remember who has the trophies and who doesn't
