I had NO IDEA Mr. Craft could be the second coming of Mike Conley Jr! I do now!! WOW - to say his performance yesterday was a pleasant surprise would absolutely be an understatement. Yes, we already know what JS is capabl of, but to NOW KNOW what AC is capable of just ADDS an additional element to our arsenal. That kid can take it to the hoop with the best of them - first time this season we have seen that!! It is almost as if Matta is picking by design one new element to try out every game this season in order to find out what he has to work with individually and team wise. He obviously has so much to work with, it is taking him a while to try everthing out he does have! This really is a very unusual season. God only knows where we might get to.

Dear Coach Matta, you're doing a great job and I love this basketball team and I will not miss a single game this season.........but..........I implore you..........please leave Deshaun Thomas on the bench until he knows every definition, pronunciation and derivation of the word "pass".

Otherwise, great game. Aaron Craft is obviously about 3,000 times better than I thought coming into the season. Player of the game for sure. Maybe he'll be B10 Frosh of the Week instead of Jared this week?

Matta seems to have struggled to get consistently good guard play since he took over. Nice to see Craft playing well, hoping he continues to improve and doesn't get worn down physically and mentally for the March run. I think that Scott kid coming in from Georgia will also further improve the play from the position. I think we could be seeing the nascent formation of the next college basketball dynasty being built in Columbus under Matta's lead.....

Bob's story is great as well as the posts but as a Buckeye rooter that's just a basketball fan I think the big story is the Big 10 conference and also Penn State. How can an also-ran, cellar dweller beat two nationally ranked team in it's conference and take the no. 2/1 team in the nation to a tie with 13.3 seconds to go and only lose by 3? This conference is packed. It's certainly shaping up to be a great year. Don't forget it's been decades since a Div. 1 men's team has gone undefeated.

The closeness of the game belies how well we played. I'm sure Matta will find many learning opportunities through the film. One thing he will find is Penn State played fantastic. Their ability to dribble drive, playing one side of the court with multiple screeners, bigs going to the basket and guards rotating out and ever tightening the circle was a wonder to watch. We played good defense and yet, at times, Penn State ended up with wide open layups. That's because their three point shooting was solid and if we went out to tie them up they had passing or dribbling lanes as alternatives. I know it's hard to beleive but Penn State looks nothing like we've seen them over the years, or even like they looked early this year. We played our buns off. Good win even if the critics will scoff.

Craft's 19 pts., 7 assists and 1 turnover are a great O-line, and the Bucks wouldn't have won without it. But make no mistake, the D he laid on Taylor Battle was the story of the game.
Sullinger has consistently put up great numbers, but having watched nearly all of the games, Craft is my choice for MVP this year. Whenever they've needed a stop or a score, Craft has had a hand in delivering it, however he has to do it. The five-second call in the second half against Minnesota was just tremendous. I've only seen that call made a half dozen or so times in my middle-aged life, and he forced it at a critical time in the game. Didn't go into his stat line or even draw a comment in any reportage I've read.

I love the Buckeyes and their great coach Matta. They are probably playing as well as we could expect them to at this time but personally I believe they are not aiming high enough against their real potential. It could be some are so young and still awed by the surroundings in big time college sports. Or it could be as yet they can't come to a conclusion as to who and what they are as a team and set their “identity”. A perfect record is highly unlikely and not good to even imagine but a dominating aggressive smart band of top talent that can control both ends of the court is out there for this group if the want it. The starters need to accept the challenge to “earn some bench time” if this team expects to realize its full potential. Those of us who use to watch John Wooden teams take the floor and by halftime convince their opponents they should have stayed on the bus saw the results of a mindset which valued a depth of dependence. The players on those teams who started “on the bench” had great respect for the starters who worked hard to allow them plenty of playing time and that perpetuated their “identity” and the type of depth and destruction you faced when going against Wooden teams. Go Bucks

The Aaron Craft was just amazing last nite in the Schott and Jared Sullinger is solid as a rock at crunch time. These two freshmen play like juniors or seniors and Hopefully Deshaun Thomas will play with the same maturity because the Buckeyes need Deshaun Thomas along with David Lighty , Jon Diebler , William Buford and Dallas Lauderdale ... Dallas needs to play solid basketball so this team can stay at #1 for sometime ... Go Basketball Buckeyes !

Great comments above and I will just add how impressed I am with OSU putting the Nut House student section behind both teams' bench. Yesterday, the game was a sell-out and the Schott was actually rocking which is huge advantage over past seasons. Because the students stand the whole game, OSU is giving up a significant amount of $$ per game since a tarp covers 4 rows of prime seats behind the students. Really glad to see OSU give up the $$ for once to make a better atmosphere for the students. GO BUCKS!!

Great job -- great team -- fun to watch.

Time to step on the gas -- and go to the next level. Win big each first quarter -- then win 2nd and 3rd and 4th quarters.

Great teams have no sympathy.

But you must respect every big team -- there is not a truly weak big 10 team. Michigan looked strong against us then Indiana blows them away.

There is not a big 10 team that cannot win against anyone on any given night.

Lowly Penn State in the past 3 games looked like a team that could get hot and go far in the NCAA March Madness.

Bucks are #1...hopefully they can get through the schedule with only 1 or 2 losses to get a #1 seed in the tourney.

Craft is a witch. What a great player. His defense is top notch. He's always been able to shoot, it just wasn't necessary until this last game. Maybe other teams should just let Lauderdale shoot jumpers all day since his offense (I know he's not there for offense) is the only weakness this team has. I would like to see Sibert play a few more minutes though.

Very nice article. This team has been good for the time Matta has been coach. And I didn't realize he is only 43 years old. If he keeps it up, there is no question that by the end of his career he will have created a team worthy of the "dynasty" tag. But he does need that Championship!
