Interesting, isn't it? On Thursday, the Nittany Lions defeated Baylor 69-63 in what many college basketball fans would classify as a meaningless game.

Regarding your assertions vis a vis the NIT, you miss the point. To these kids and programs it is about the competition. Although not every team benefitted from a deep run, Penn State, Florida and several other programs with young players do benefit from an extra 1, 2, 3 + games...and again, the joy of seeing the Cornley's and Battle's celebrating a championship is heartening after all those long years or wretched failure.

Furthermore, you and those who agree with your opinion, do the game a disservice when callously throwing aside what is usually an evenly matched and entertaining tourney.

Beside, what would Hoops fans watch on Tuesday and Wednesday of tourney week if not the NIT?

pennst92: isn't that what the article said? That the NIT was better for PSU than NCAA?

If you're saying that the NIT is as relavant as the NCAA, that's crazy. Look at the attendance and look at the disappointment of the players on Selection Sunday when they aren't selected for the NCAAs.

Granted the NIT, if you go the whole way, is a great jump on the next season when you have a young squad. But lets not get carried away here. I'm a hoops fan regardless, but make no mistake, the NIT isn't even close to the NCAAs. Shoot, the refs looked second rate also. It wouldn't exist today had the NCAA not taken over the tournament a year or so a go. You get to go to the NIT because there are detrimental gliches on your seasons resume that won't qualify you for the NCAAs. If PSU wants to get to the Big Dance, they MUST quit using Joe Pa's plan of scheduling. You can get away with scheuling cupcakes in football as long as the asinine BCS exists. But she don't work in hoops, thank goodness. I don't see Ed Dechellis name mentioned for jobs that are still open at some big time programs. Still players want to go to the ACC and Big East and be seen night in, night out on the tube and play big games in the college hoop mecca of Madison Square Garden.
Now PSU hoop fans need to keep a close eye on the limo ride that was given to Talor's mom from Albany, NY. to MSG by a PSU alum, then followed several hours later by the verbal given by Talor's brother to PSU. Hope they don't get the Lions tail in the ringer.
