Illinois can't score. They will be relegated to the NIT if they are lucky.

A guy that takes on the name of a coach who can't win in March with five star players has no right to judge whether Weber can get his three star players ready for the big time. Fault the recruiting. D-Will and Luther Head were four star recruits he turned into pros. He needs to sit Chester and go big. A high-low attacks the zone and gets the ball in motion for open shots. Randle should come off the bench. What a disappointment.

There is nothing wrong with Bruce Weber that next year won't cure. Geez. This is a bad, but young team. Weber understands that going deep into the NCAA's is what the plan is. Lets look at a few things. McBride was a Self recruit, he was terrible compared to his press clippings. Warren Carter was a miss until his senior year. We caught bad breaks. If we had Jamar Smith playing this year, Meacham would not leave the bench. Brian Carlwell would be a solid backup. What would you think of this lineup if Smith was here. Tiz, Pruitt, Smith, McCamey and Brock. Alexander, Davis, Frazier, Carlwell and Randle for a few minutes. Completely different team and outcomes. You cannot blame Weber for Smith/Carlwell. The team will be 180 degress better next year and lookout for 2009. Final Four in 3 years. Weber's offense needs good guards that move. We do not have that. Not yet. Remember, it took a good year for Brown, Head and Williams to get it down. Same story hear, everyone wanted to bury Weber in 2003/2004 but it worked out fine, it will work out again.

I am a big fan of the Illinois basketball team. However, I feel that much of Coach Webber's success the last 3 seasons were because of players recruited by then coach Bill Self. Has coach Webber done well in the recruiting game? Maybe it is too early, but I wonder if he can recruit and be successful in the big ten with his own players.

Less than two minutes remained in the game, the Illini were down by five with the ball and Pruitt was standing around like a cigar store indian. He showed no leadership or desire to be the go-to guy. But the good news is that at least he was still around with two minutes to go, unlike Randle.

I wonder if the Orlando Magic will have room on their roster next year for two more Illini stiffs?

I am an Illini alum and fan, but this obviously is not Illinois' year (again). Last year, SIU was the best team in the state, but now they are scrambling to try and find a win. Best team in Illinois this year? Right down the interstate from Urbana in Normal. Illinois State has it going this year, and it is a really fun team to watch play (not only talented, but these kids hustle their butts off). No coincidence that the head coach was an assistant to Bill Self.

Weber is putting together some good future classes (of kids with real character, unlike Eric Gordon). We will be back, Illini.

Agree Terry K, Illinois State is a very good team that gets very little coverage. Maybe the DUI can get a game with Eastern Illinois to see which team is the worst in the state.

Another problem is this team cannot sink a free throw. Some guys throw up bricks but these guys throw up houses. Have to be able to put points on the board when the clock isn't running.

The Ilinois Basketball team has never been able to rely on Brian Randal. He took the afternoon off during the Penn State game. Coach Weber should think about shaking up his backcourt. The inability to shoot the basketball by the guards has serverly hampered the flow of the offense. McCameys continued improvement warrants additional floor time while Chester Frazier has no confidence.

Now you Illinois fans realize that
Weber cannot recruit, and I'm questioning his coaching. He missed out on all the talent coming out of Illinois in 08. Now you see why Iman isn't going there. Time to get a new staff. I still find it hard to believe that he offered a freshman a four year ride and never offered the top talent in this state one. How sad for the school.

I could not watch the game, but I assume Weber continued to play man to man defense even tho he was being outrebounded and Penn St had no outside shooters...also his man to man again gave the visitors twice the # of free throws (and Randal in foul trouble)...not that shooting free throws is a benefit to Illini.....very, very disspaointed in coach Weber's refusal to change either defense or offense schemes.

Very astute observations of you, Mister. I'm glad someone sees this...

I understand being critical of college kids is not usually endorsed but oh well. Anyone who has watched UIUC bball this season sees that the two main seniors (of the three listed on the roster), Pruitt and Randle, have far too often not shown up, especially in the crunches of the games. Foul trouble, getting outplayed by the opposing teams' big men (and guards and forwards)...they are not showing the leadership one would expect not only of senior players, but senior players who were on the 2004-2005 Illini team. And apparently the underclassmen are either unwilling or unable to fill that void.

Is this an indictment of Weber's recruiting and coaching? Perhaps. I'm with those who say to give him more time, to see if he can develop players more useful than Pruitt and Randle. Next season is far enough removed from 2005 (and charges of being a beneficiary of Self's recruiting) to have a better idea of Weber's ablities in this regard by the end of it.

But this season is shot. They deserve no more than NIT. And even then I'm reluctant to say they deserve that.
