Folks, it's been a long time coming but we're seeing something special in Lafayette. I've been a Purdue basketball fan since the late 60's when Rick Mount went to Purdue. I still remmeber his first gane against UCLA in Mackey and that one point loss.
But we're seeing something that I haven't seen at Purdue and that is unselfish play and an unbeleivable depth of the players that can play solid minutes. It's like any player on any night can step up and put the points on the board.
While Purdue may not have the so-called super-stars that some other schools have, I don't believe any other team in the country can boast the balance that Purdue has in the 9 player rotation Matt Painter uses.
And Matt Painter is proving to be the coach Purdue needs. He's doing such a tremendous job with these young men that it will be a big mistake if he isn't the Big Ten Coach of the Year and a strong candidate for National Coach of The Year. Man, I'm sure glad he ended up as Purdue Coach instead of Weber. I like Weber but I don't think he's near the coach Painter is.
Anyway, Gooooooo BOILERS!

The conference is only half way through, let's not count our chickens just yet! My Boiler's are very young and vulnerable to crumble at any given moment.

the bench production in this game was great. i think even iu fans would have to acknowledge that they would be hard pressed to find a team that plays harder than purdue. its very clear that this young team is gaining confidence. good luck the rest of the season purdue.

Nice win Boilers. I don't look forward to the IU v. PU game. Purdue is definitely the better and more consistant team right now. The way the Hoosiers have been playing, we could struggle with Northwestern today.

Heart - That's what the Boilers have and that's why they're going to be National Champions. Maybe not this year, but I wouldn't be suprised if Purdue starts off the season in the next couple of years with a #1 rating

Thank you Coach Painter - after all the years watching a Purdue football team not playing to their potential, it's awesome to watch a team perform at it's best!

Boy, gaining confidence is right... you can see it growing can't you. This team is really exciting to watch, and like Old Boiler, I am certainly glad that coach Painter is ours!

Just think, 8 and 1; alone at the top of the BT standings - for the moment; who would have thought that?

Boiler up!

Give Morgan Burke credit. He's one of the most competitive people I know and he bleeds Black & Gold. The hires of Matt Painter and Sharon Versp really have Purdue basketball flying high with the Boilers on top of the league in men's and women's. I think Danny Hope is cut from the same stuff -- good coach & good recruiter. Things are certainly looking up for the Boiler Nation. HAIL PURDUE!!!!!

Way to have a positive attitude. I'm sure you're probably a I.U. fan with wishful thinking. No one thought the Boilers would be in 1st place all by themselves. But they are. As you said "half way through the conference". I'm proud as hell of these young kids and how they play. Painter has done a great job getting these guys to play team ball.
If they hold home court and win a couple more road games anything can happen. You keep doubting them and I'll keep getting up at 2 in the morning and cheering for them.

Beautiful! DEFENSE - Freethrows - and Saturday is was E'twaun Moore's turn to step up. My decision to switch to Direct TV and the Big Ten network is really looking good right now.

Nice job Painter and the Boilers!

I agree with the comment that Burke knows how to pick people. We have been blessed to have him as AD. Coach Painter did a masterful job with the Illinois game plan and his team executed it to perfection. We have so many guys who can step up that the other team has no idea who to concentrate on and Matt is exploiting this talent. We have only scratched the surface with this team. Yesterday Terrance Crump played like he did earlier in the season. We have weaknesses but Matt is making it very difficult for other teams to exploit them without making themselves vulnerable. This is really awesome to watch. I have never seen a more unselfish TEAM. Bring on Penn State. Go Boilers!!!

Another huge win on the road. Hard to believe half of the team was in foul trouble much of the game. Everyone else just stepped it up a notch. E'Twaun was unconcious! Great win... next up Penn St. coming off a big win.

Commentatators hold Michigan Stae's Izzo as a great coach but after watching Michigan State's poor, poor performance last night against Penn State, give me Painter any time! Wow, the Boilers are fun to watch. Sure glad we got Painter and not Samson.

Well said! Been a long Boiler, and have followed PU BB since the Lee Rose era. These are special individuals that don't appear to be ego driven, just driven to win. Painter has done an excellent job of communicating his message of team play and leaving it all out on the court each game. It also helps that we have a coach that lives, breathes, and eats BB 24/7!

Don...

Apparently you have never watched Purdue play defense. And thanks Indy Star...no mention of Purdue in first place in the Big Ten. Not surprised at all.
