Last Air Jordans?

Full story: Chicago Tribune

It's gotta be the shoes, right? No other basketball shoe has changed the face of business, athletics and marketing like the Air Jordan.

Anybody that is stupid enough to pay $200.00 for any pair of shoes deserves to be ripped off. If they are too poor to afford rent then the shoe is out of their league anyway. You don't see Paris Hilton lowering the price of her perfume so poor ass kids can put it on as well. Part of the allure of the Air Jordan is that not alot of people have them because they are so expensive. I think you are missing the whole point of marketing and high demand products. More power to Jordan and Nike, it's not their fault that American citizens are so ignorant and stupid. That's the government's fault, blame them before you poke jabs at Jordan for becoming extrememly succesful and extremely rich, feeding off of the stupidity and ignorance of the American public.

Don't you think the Jordans should be retired on merit? After all, most recent designs have been simply too (TOO!) ugly for public display.

Yes, It's sad that these fools buy these shoes. But let's face it, what other sports figure, would even come close in gymshoe sale's other than Jordan! This man appeals to the Blacks and the White's. Especially the suburban Teens, who are generally WHITE!! So Bloggers, before you fall off the handle, know what your talking about! Jordan Shoes, Play station, Hip Hop music are brought by inner city kids, but the bulk of the pay scale goes to the average "Joe" living in the Suburbs, and guest what, there NOT BLACK........

Personally, I've never paid more than $28 for a pair of athletic shoes and no more than $40 for a pair of dress shoes. If someone wants to pay $200 for a status symbol, go for it.

I can't believe the Jordan line would still be that big a deal. His 15 minutes of fame are long gone, except when discussing great players of the past.

Folks: It's a SHOE. If the people you hang around with really care what shoes you wear, get new friends.

LOL!

The Jordan Brand is one of the most popular lines of shoes out there.
And no, this shoe doesn't fall under that category...

Michael Jordan is the definition of sport. He should demand and expect to receive more than any other athlete regardless if it is a contract or a pair of shoes or anything else until someone can knock him off his throne.

I am on a nationwide committee that reads educational grants for the Jordan Fundamental Grant Foundation, which for the past several years has been awarding $2500-$20,000 grants to teachers in public schools who meet the criteria of having 50% free lunch. This foundation is funded by proceeds from the purchase of all Brand Jordan merchandise.

I am not going to get into the political, philosophical, or fashion ramifications of this shoe. However, I am grateful, as a retired teacher, that this program is available to teachers throughout the United States, and I thank Mr. Jordan for the contribution he is making to both teachers and students, as reading the grants from the applicants makes one aware of what teachers are trying to do with very few resources. It is an important program, and I am glad it is supported by sales of merchandise that people are going to buy anyhow.

It is absolutlely f@ckin' rediculous the price they are charging for these shoes. Alot of the parents who fork over $230.00 for these shoes for their kids can least afford it.
Instead of investing that kind of money in thier kids education, they but these high priced shoes so they can be stoeln at school.

As someone who grew up with the Jordan brand, as a fan, and someone who has owned Jordan merchandise since '86 from the south side. I never understood the argument regarding the price of Jordan's. If Kenneth Cole, UGG, Manolo or any other person selling shoes can charge Hundreds of dollars (lots of shoes are 2 or three times the amount of the most expensive Jordan ever was)with out regard for "inner city youth", why can't Jordan. Why does he have to price his shoe for poor people to afford? That is the most un-american, socialist, communistic idea ever and it stinks of racism.

Air Jordan is a performance shoe and is the best feeling basketball shoe I have ever worn. It is a luxury item that should be purchased by those with means. Does BMW have to make a coupe so poor people can have one too?

15 minutes of fame????? He isn't some reality TV star, he is the greatest player in the history of basketball.

Great post. I agree 100%. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy them. In fact, they are making limited editions so they will be hard to buy. It's great marketing by Nike using the greatest basketball player in history. I'd buy them just to save them. They could be worth something down the line if it's the last Air Jordan.

Hey Dummy, no one tells you or any other person to buy these shoes at such a high price. Ask you self this, pay the rent, or go out and buy this high price shoe, D-U-M-B-A-S-S.
