I like my job here at UTEP. I love this town. Does that sound familiar anyone?

John Calipari agreed to an 8 year contract that averages to 3.9 millions annually. Coach Barbee is recommended for the Memphis headcoach vacant spot which currently pays over one million yearly [a huge difference in the economic ladder]. He 'loves' El Paso but invariably they love money, and the smell of it,more.
So long, El Paso. Hello, Memphis. Kentucky has a storied past? So does UCLA and then some. You don't see UCLA offering insane contracts to return the school to their storied past. Perhaps UCLA doesn't have an inferiority Kentuckian complex. Screw Kentucky. One mustn't forget how Kentucky trashed talked TWC in the 60s and how intrumental their school was in demaging the school's basketball program after losing to the Miners for the national championship. If Kentucky has a storied past it also has a storied past in racism and bigotry. |

Kentucky is "The Holy Grail of College Basketball", so what are you talking about? They have everything anyone can want in a program. 1. Tradition/History 2. Championships 3. Boosters who shell out. 4. East of the Mississippi River (bigger market). 5. Easy to recruit. UCLA is a historic program, but have been a bust lately. That’s why they can't pay up because they're boosters won't shell out till there at least back on top in the college ranks. |

Kentucky is stuck in the past with the mystic and aura of Mein Fuhrer Adolph Rupp, just like UTEP is stuck in the past with the '66 championship team.
To their credit, Kentucky has won three championships in the post-Rupp era. UTEP? Nada! |

Go Miners!

One thing for sure - if anyone wouldn't want a promotion from say $350,000/yr to over $1,000,000/yr - must think money really does grow on trees. To Coach Barbees credit - the Memphis program has him on a replacement list. What a great honor for a great coach! Let's hope he DOES stay. He has done more for the UTEP Basketball program than any coach in the past 15 yrs. And if you're thinking about the late great bear - the program was in trouble in his last few years. What other coach has rebuilt the program better that Coach B has?

Part of the equation of a great sports team is the fans themselves! If people in El Paso would whole heartedly support the Miners and rock the Sun Bowl and the "Don" at every home game we would be a force to recon with and it would be a great selling point to the recruiting program. ESPN might even consider televising more games if all the seats were filled and sold out. How many televised games are sold-out and a huge portion of the fans are students all decked out in school colors cheering on their team? Come on UTEP get on board and make some noise, we are responsible as the 12th or 6th player, that is what home games are all about. Good Luck Miners, see you tonight at the Don. Nothing better than hunting BEAVER!!! |

[You stupid,two lottery picks fur UCLA KY 0, hey the PAC-10 had five Lottery picks last year SEC 0, and not to mention UCLA has made the previous three Final Fours........I remember UCLA shelling out the big bucks for B Howland not to long ago, you obviously must be a daylight college basketball fan stoopid.....QUOTE] |

You Stupid KY hasn't been relevant since Pitino Left. anyways who wants to play in the blugrass when they could be dancing on the sand, surf and sun of LA.....oh yeah Antoine Walker? Walter McCarty, all those no names that failed to live up to the NBA hype along with their college coach Pitino....UCLA is a far superior program just look at the championships, NBA Players, |

Famous last words from pandering coaches when asked if they will leave their current position, "I love El Paso"!
Bahh humbug, seems like we've heard the same lies before. Remember Bob Stull, before he left for Missouri? Billy G., before he left for A&M? Sadler, before he let for Nebraska? How disingenuous is that? We all know these coaches are always looking for greener pastures! So, tell us the truth for once and leave already, there is no mystery about your intentions, coach Barbee! We all know if you are offered the Memphis job, you're gone! |
||||

Kentucky, the University and the state, are the cradle of racism and bigotry!
That is why Adolf,(Hitler) Rupp, is burning in hell now! The name of the basketball court, Rupp Arena, says it all, pigs! Why does the NCAA tolerate it? Because they are also run by old, white bigots! |
||||
First it's spelled "You are stupid" not "You Stupid" and “bluegrass” not “blugrass”. Second can you really even call me stupid when you don't know how to even reply to a previous or spell? So don't humor me with name calling. Anyhow my point was "who wouldn't want to coach there and listed the benefits of coaching there. UCLA is an awesome program always has been thanks to the Wizard of Westwood. I was just simply state that KU can pay coaches more then UCLA. Ben Howland get paid $1million a year Cal is going to be making $3.95 million see the difference? EITHER WAY, UTEP GAME IS SOLD OUT GO MINERS!!! |

The game just sold out

How many of you would turn down a job offer for double your current salary or more in some town other than El Paso? You would be either lying or stupid not to accept it.
College basketball is big business and the coaches are the top salesmen. It doesn't matter if they love EP or any other town they happen to be in. It's all about winning games. As of today Calipari is one of the top salemen in the country and it is good for UTEP and EP that he has mentioned Barbee as a worthy replacement at Memphis. Chances of Memphis taking coach Bb are slim to none, because Bb has not gotten UTEP past the CBI tournament yet. Once the Miners get a few NCAA wins, expect to see Bb heading out of town. Till then, EP should enjoy this promising team and talented coach/recruiter/salesman. |
