People do have a lot misconception of El Paso, but its connection to the culture of Mexico is historical. This area was once part of Mexico and still influenced by that culture. I am not Mexican American but have a German descent, but I like the positive side of the Mexican culture. I don't understand what some people want? How do they expect visitors to be greeted? Just give it a rest, and lets have some fun and a great game.

All I'm saying is this town needs to get a little more creative and make an all inclusive themed showcase. Remember, "you only get one chance to make a first impression". I think the mariachi and folkorico has run it's course and is now stagnate. In Austin when there us a VIP or special occassion at the airport, they have the longhorn band and other types of local talents. In San Antonio, the Spurs cheerleaders and different kinds of local talent. How about having the Ft Bliss band, the Miner band and cheerleaders, the Diablo cheerleaders. The one showcase that represented El Paso proudly got cancelled...remember Viva! El Paso? It's be nice if El Paso joined the 21st century.

Outside looking in wrote: <quoted text> El Chuco? Spoken like a TDCJ veterano. Ese Yosimite! Great point! about holding the Sun Bowl Game elsewhere. All the Sun Bowl Organization needs is a stadium and a little negotiations with the city council, and it's done! It's about the Southwest! There's Las Cruces, Lubbock, Tucson. Like you said, "Primo", Get rid of the Lap-Dancers in long dresses or change venue. Lets see.....I bet the SB Association are Marijuano El Pasoans. Watch your back Carnal....give me a call if you need help! Not that kinda help...I loaned you some money 2 days ago. What happened??? I smoked it.

I agree with everyone who is tired of the same song and dance every time the teams and their fans arrive to El Paso. ENOUGH of the ubiquitous mariachis and folklorico dancers. This is not the only thing that represents El Paso. What about the Ft. Bliss military band greeting them? The UTEP marching band, cheerleaders, Goldiggers?? To make matters worse they invite the players to dance and the look on their faces is pure embarrassment!! "Ok I guess I'll dance but only to not make my team look rude..."--really they just want to get off the plane and get on with visiting our city without the reminder of Mexico. C'mon Sun Bowl Welcoming Committee, there has to be something else available for welcoming the players, coaches, and fans to our great city!! As much as Mexico is tied to El Paso, WE ARE NOT Mexico (THANK GOD!) and we must remember that. El Paso has a lot more to offer than this.

You have some great suggestions. But are the Sun Bowl Association brass willing to consider changes? I doubt it.
