Kelvin Sampson was known by IU to have violated recruiting laws when they hired him and now he has done so again. Any reasonable adult would assume that Kelvin learned what he could and could not do in regards to phone calls after his first violation and this time he hoped to not get caught.
The real question is does IU want to win with someone who continues to cheat or will they remove him to prevent any further tarnishing of a previously spotless record? I bet coach Knight would have a thing or two to say about Kelvin ruining the image of an IU program that he always worked hard to keep clean in recruiting! |

Rules are rules and I am assuming the coaching staff can read and comprehend??
It was deliberate and the coach is responsible for his staff |

Come on Myles, remember the zero tolerance rule? Step up or shut up!

Not only is the coach responsible so is the person whom hired this coach. IU certainly has changed. Hiring a cheater should never of happened. There were many good coaches they could have hired. But knowing the group of people in there now, this guy will be here forever. Just one more reason not to send money of any kind to IU. Cheaters don't deserve money.

I guess the excesses of Bob Knight proved that IU would go to any extremes to win. Knight's one saving grace is he could claim he didn't cheat (no matter how abusive he was). Once again, the basketball program has made me embarrassed to admit I went to IU. The only thing that will clean up the mess down in Bloomington is when the alums stop writing checks.

No one really takes anything you say seriously. Maybe you don't care and you just want a chance to emit your verbal flatulence and force the world to smell it....but if you really are interested in intelligent dialogue, try "loosiering" the ALL CAPS and talking in a rational matter...as opposed to ranting like an incoherent mental patient who's gone off their medication. |

You people are TEACHERS in Bloomington. Think of the message you are sending to the kids. And here's my message to you, clowns. No more alumni checks.

I know this man has children. Does he have any idea what scandal like this does to them? How about the message he's sending to other children by this behavior? Sad. Really sad. He should be sent packing. Hopefully, another university won't be so forgiving and give him a THIRD CHANCE! IU just got bit in the butt, again, by a poor choice. People can say what they want about Knight, but, he always had the basketball programs best interest at heart.

They all cheat. Even Bobby cheated! I know most of you brainwashed Knight zombies want to believe he didn't, but you can bet there were converstions taking place that were not supposed to. Either by Knight or one of his assistants. It is just a stupid rule, therfore, not highly inforced and not considered a major rules infraction.

Fine him and fire him. We can no longer trust him. I am certain several local high school coaches can do as well or better, and for less money or controversy.

What an idiot. So much hope and promise. Was it a mistake...doubt it, or a decision the rules do apply to him. One more time. and I don't care if he wins a national championship, he must go.

YES! and YES! and the answer for Greenspun is YES and YES! |

Thrown in the Athletic Director into the stupid column. Apparently Sampson will do "whatever it takes" to recruit players. Being on NCAA probation meant nothing to him and now IU will take on additional punishment from the NCAA. All I can say is he better win a lot this year. The fans gave him a free pass last year. With the talent he has on this year's squad, anything short of a final four is unacceptable. |

You know, we will never be national champions, but we can look at ourselves in the mirror every morning. And still make the Sweet 16.
And the Dogs have proven that they can do it the right way, and still beat IU and Purdue. It's really got to make the IU Alums proud... |

Who cares. Big time college sports have become nothing more than a money grab by the schools, the conferences and the NCAA. This whole thing is a joke.
The above mentioned need to quit pretending that they have some moral high ground and retool their rules to reflect the fact that they basically run junior professional sports leagues that just don't pay their players. |
|
So I guess we can chose which rules we think are stupid, and not obey them. As far as the $500,000 that would easly be given back to him with a larger contract or extension. So there really isn,t the major punishment. All smoke and mirrors. Also remember that this is what got him in trouble in the first place. So stupid rule or not, this makes him a repeat affender. |

It is sad. Last year at opening practice Coach Sampson promised this wouldnt happen at I.U. Now look at it. How can you have confidence in a coach that does not keep his promise? How can you have players keep promises when the coach cant. The team looked strong Friday night and it looked to be a promising outlook for this year. Now with this issue it just lets the air out of the excitement for the season.

After the Oklahoma violations, Sampson should know the rules better than Myles and his band of NCAA rules police. In the end, the ones who stand to suffer the most are the players, who only have a few years to make their college careers successful. Sampson and Co. will land on their feet and move forward with their shifty actions.
