I am convinced, if he is good enough for Todd Olson and his son Trevor how can it be wrong? Probably because Maturi had something to do with it.

I am not happy with this choice. I wanted Leach. But I am going to give the guy atleast one season before I bash him. I still think Joel Maturi needs to go. This is the Tubby Smith of football, Mike Leach is maybe the Tubby Smith of football. Maturi is too proud. What a jerk.

Who? Maturi had his pick of available coaches and had a chance to right the wrong that was made in the Brewster debacle, and now we are faced with another 4-5 years of losing football.... Kill does not even have the rep of a big-time recruiter...

There's no doubt that this hire was horribly handled by Maturi. He shouldn't have talked about hiring a Tubby Smith if there was no guarantee that he could deliver. But I will suspend judgment on him until I have seen his team play.

I have a feeling that Maturi and the U heard several laughs and "No way" answers before they got down this far in their list and found someone desperate enough to take the job.

The U of M Athletic Director needs to be re-assigned to a new job !!!!! How much longer will it be, before fans realize HE seems to be the problem. Whoever is writing up these contracts needs some advice as well...sending people down the road a year or two later with a pocket full of OUR money has got to stop.

Get a Clue! The only person knocking on the door to coach the Gophers was Leach and thats because no one else was looking for him. As for the other so-called available coaches, they had just started rebuilding their programs and weren't going anywhere. Most just wanted their schools to give them a nice raise to stay! Duh!

Big-time recruiter? Don't you read the newspapers? What do you think makes a big-time recruiter? Big-time money for going all over the country recruiting!

Kill has been a winner everywhere he has gone. He has changed the programs for the better. Do you not get it? The football program is no different than basketball program was when Tubby Smith was hired! Its a good step for Kill and he can win in Minnesota and young enough to stick around.

Give the guy a chance! After Brewster, he can only take the team upwards!

I can't believe I'm gonna stick up for Shooter but Elvis, why wouldn't you talk to somebody who is 1) a coach himself and 2) has had his kid in Kill's program??

Hopefully Kill will have a good rapport with the high school coaches here in Minnesota. Mason and Wacker both struck me as coaches who couldn't have cared less where the Minnesota kids went to school...which didn't do them any favors. The U isn't going to win with only Minnesota players but to just let guys like John Carlson (Notre Dame), Larry Fitzgerald (Pitt), Seantrell Henderson (USC, then Miami) just go to school out of state without so much as a fight...that's got to change and its got to change quick!

If Kill can make it so most high-end Minnesota high school players aspire to play at the U again and if he can build a damn defense over there, I'll stay off his case.

I have the feeling that everybody that is writing in today did not see the NIU vs. Minnesota game in 2008 and this year. If that is not enough, read what Ron Zook and Pat Fitzgerald have to say about the new coach. Getting a big name coach is like being married to a real beautiful babe. High Maintenance. Threats of leaving, complaints about the facilities, playing mind games, nothing is ever right (Holtz,Mason etc.) It's great to get a coach whose teams are solid in all three phases of the game. Nothing fancy but they just win. And if they don't win the other team sure knows they have been in a game. Plus, I think the Minnesota kid is going to want to play for him. And despite what many of you feel, I think there are a lot of good football players in the state of Minnesota that can play at the U of M and win if given the opportunity. Like their new coach they don't have all the frills and 4.2 times but they know how to work hard, get better and win. Good hire!

They just did a story on how some guy's kid played for him and that makes him great. Comical.

Do a story on how the rest of the nation thinks Maturi is a bafoon and how everyone across the country thinks the U of M is a joke.

You mean the same Pat Fitzgerald who said that if it wasn't for a few bad breaks the gophers would be undefeated. Yeah he is credible.

OK, the press conference went better than I'd hoped. He sounds like a no-nonsense guy, and he doesn't just have a power run O, but opens it up at times. I have some hope.

I'll be curious to see if most players stay, and the 15 verbal recruits stick. Also curious to see what he can add to this years recruiting, and also which, if any of the current coaches her keeps on his staff.

Oh yah, Maturi sounded like an arrogant jerk during the press conference. Did you notice him always saying I, I and I. He's a pompous A $ $, fire him now.
