Great coach who did the most with what he had at first, which was not much, but Joe has brought forth many great things to NIU. He will be missed and is leaving big shoes to fill. Thanks Coach Novak. Go Huskies!!

Thanks for the memories Coach Novak, We'll never forget you and what you did for NIU football! I'm truly happy you were able to go out on your own terms.

Best of luck, and GOOOOOOO Huskies!

I'd like to thank Coach Novak for his leadership. It was exciting to watch the program emerge. Hopefully NIU will continue the winning ways and Novak will have left a lasting legacy.

I was a junior at NIU when the Huskies went to the California Bowl under coach Bill Mallory who left after the 1983 season to coach Indiana University. Then, we got a buffoon, Lee Corso, and the program fell on some very hard times. Numerous coaches later, Joe Novak (who was an assistant coach under Mallory at NIU) got his chance to coach the Huskies and rest is H-I-S-T-O-R-Y. He put the NIU program back on the map. The 2007 season saw the Huskies finish 2-10 but Novak was not to blame. Injuries, etc. Many close losses. I applaud Mr. Novak for an incredible run with the Huskies and wish him luck in his retirement. Now, I hope the NIU bosses offer the job to PJ Fleck, an NIU alum, who knows how to recruit and coach at the Mid-Major level. Go Huskies.. I wonder who lives at 833 B Stevenson Towers South.. That was NIU address for two years.. WOO HOO!! Pizza World. etc.. Some great memories. If anyone is looking at a good college, close to Chicago, they should consider NIU.

Coach Novak,
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, for rescuing Huskie Football from a dark place and delivering it to a level of competitiveness never before seen at NIU. Thank you especially for doing it your way, the right way, with the class that comes simply and naturally to you.

Great coach, class act. Anyone associated with NIU should be proud of how their football coach represented the university over the last 12 years.
