Randy Shannon: UM players 'don't trust coaching staff'

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Miami had problems executing in its 33-27 loss to North Carolina on Saturday, but coach Randy Shannon believes correcting on-field mistakes is just part of the challenge facing his team.

Great move Shalala, you hired a guy who the players don't trust, and won't perform for.
Miami fired a guy because they felt they had to do something, the problem is that they fired their coach without knowing who they could get, and they had to settle for Shannon. Good job Donna, anything else you like to screw up.

Understand what he said, the players don't trust the current coaching staff because they are still programed to Cokers nonchalant ways. They need to build confidence and believe that they are better than just average as Coker was happy with. Not Shalala's fault at all! Shannon can only do so much, he can't play the game for them he can only prepare them. Phillips said it himself in the postgame article, "we did not listen to our coaching"! Trust the building process and understand what is, is. The Canes are not great, their good and better than average if they execute what is learned in practice. Dominant when thay have the personel to execute it. Trust the process and play the blame game later. One last thing, remember Ron Zook?

They don't trust the staff? Maybe the staff needs to bench all the players except for the freshmen and start over since this season is over with anyway

Used to live in S. Florida and support the Canes. Now live in Columbus, Ohio and support the Buckeyes.

All I can say is, did you canes fans manage to watch the OSU - Perdue match? Pity! You would have seen how a REAL DEFENSE works.

GO BUCKEYES!!!

You canes fans are hilarious! Just last week all I read was how great Shannon is and how he's turning the program around, and now he sucks, and they had to settle for him instead of a good coach, and the players don't trust him. You guys are a joke!

How is it Randy Shannon's fault at how this team is doing? This man can only do so much. I didn't expect everything to go smooth during this man's 1st year being the head coach. I can tell you he'll be turning a lot of heads in the next year or 2.

Any time a black person fails at something, it is authority that is to blame. That and predjudice by the white people. Never themselves.

At some point I have to believe that the preponderance of the posters on this forum know little to absolutely nothing about coaching changes in sports. It is about PRODUCTION and Coker and his staff mainly the offensive side of the ball did not PRODUCE! The coach canít play the game for the team, he can only prepare them. At what point between Coker getting fired and Shannon taking over as head coach did any of you non believers think that the Canes were going to be any better than what they were last year? The Canes have the same garbage player personnel from Cokerís lackluster regime with the exception of Graig Cooper (new), Darnell Jenkins (return from injury) and Sam Shields the only guys making big time plays for PRODUCTION. Three guys canít win by themselves! As for coaching goes, the lethargic, non PRODUCING offense of last year that everyone cried about and said needed to change has changed! They only averaged 19.5 points per game and the highest reception average was only 15.7 yards per catch which is not what Canes fans are familiar with (referring to the big play championship teams of the past). As for this year, in only five games the offense is averaging 25.3 points per game and the highest yards per catch average is 20. For a defensive minded coach, thatís damn better than what Coker accomplished and with nearly the same talent. Now, like Randy said, as coaches we have to DEEEPROOOGRAME THE MIDSET OF OUR PLAYERS FROM THINKING LIKE LOSERS! Shannon did not inherit a championship caliber team like Coker did. He inherited a team full of mediocre talented individuals recruited by Coker! He is playing the role of Mr. Fix it and the Canes are for one showing promise and the offense has produced a hell of a lot more big plays than the previous three years combined. Granted, Kyle and Kirby both suck but who else can Shannon play at QB? He has no other experienced personnel that can play the position at this time and that position is 100% why the Canes are not (5-1) and ranked in the top 25. Give Shannon another year or two before you quit on him. The comeback performance that was displayed against North Carolina was something Canes fans have not seen in quite some time now, HEART! I will take that over anything the past Coker teams displayed. If anything quit on those sorry ass (0-5) Dolphins!

Did anyone really expect Miami to go undefeated and win the National Championship this year? Please, not with Kyle Wright and Kirby Freeman at QB. Why are people hating on Randy Shannon so? He was the only thing we had the past few years with his solid defense. Give Randy time he'll get things right once we get another QB.

Reading the comments section of these articles never fails to reinforce my belief that the majority of people in south Florida are complete morons.

Seriously, how do you people function in the real world?
