Few college campuses in this country invite academic pursuit as pleasantly as that of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Full Story

"And of all the student bodies among which freedom of thought, study and expression should thrive, the
28,000 on campus, so many of them burgeoning liberals, oops, progressives, would be high on our list."

How does this paper know they are "burgeoning" liberals? Dam n, this paper is so full of itself and so self righteous it makes me sick. How about, just a smidgen of neutrality.

Do you have something against progressives? Perhaps, you fully endorse conservatism, with all its' restrictions and "safe" limitations? Should we all be more neutral, like you?

Way to give up the moral high ground to your opponent: "Tancredo took the opportunity to cloak himself in martyrdom, declaring that 'the so-called purveyors of tolerance and diversity showed just how open-minded they are when it comes to diversity of opinions.' This from a politician notably intolerant of so many who came to his state to contribute their work."

Here's a tip for the college protesters: Just because the 1st Amendment gives you the right to free speech, it doesn't mean it's a good idea to make a bigger fool of yourself than the bigoted fool you're protesting.

Everyone has the right to freely express their opinions. It does no good to suppress it. It's far better to hear it out in the open, than to guess what is driving behavior afterward. When the words we hear ring full of bigotry and hate, we can expose that for what it is and choose to reject those ideas and behave in a way that supports the inclusion of people into our society, for the betterment of us all. This country has always had deep divisions, red and blue states, north and south, black and white, rich and poor, urban and rural, the list is endless. What makes this country great is the will and effort to break down the barriers of ignorance and fear that perpetuates those divisions. We are all much more alike in the most basic and important ways than we are different. We just have to listen and realize that we are one people. What hurts one, hurts us all. What improves one, improves us all. That is the kind of America we want and will make us the the ideal of people all over the world, rather than the target of terrorism.

The drug and people smugglers have lots of money, and idiot Americans, to smear those that see what has been happening and speak out about it.

Lets just make sure we are not painting an entire ethnic group of people with one broad brush colored with the very worst elements of that class. Once fear and ignorance are allowed to be expressed as righteousness, it gets out of control and innocent people get hurt.

It is the responsibility of all ethnic groups to not let the worst elements hide behind their ethnicity. Otherwise that broad brush is what they get painted with.

These people are not hiding behind their ethnicity. The entire group is punished by some fools for the misdeeds of a few bad apples. Oh, by the way, what color was Hitler? How about Stalin? Jack the Ripper, Jeffrey Dahlmer, Charlie Manson, Lee Harvey Oswald, Jack Ruby, Shall I go on? Are you judged by the actions of these men? Discrimination is a good thing. Bigotry is another matter.

Those guys were disowned and actions were taken against them by their peers.

How many Mexican drug and people smugglers have been turned in by their own people? Why haven't they done more to stop that sort of thing?

Liberals are not tolerant and live and let live type people. They are biased, bigoted, and despise anyone who disagrees with them. This incident shows it, as does the comments of liberals in Santa Fe. Why does anyone expect something else?
