This was such a refreshing article to read. Recently the sports page has demonstrated that for so many athletes the concept of being a “good sport” had been lost. The crashes and fights of NASCAR may excite some but what do hey say to our youth. When you have to take drugs to set records in the sporting world, what does that promote? Once upon a time sports were about being physically healthy, learning how to compete with dignity and respect for others but above all it taught teamwork.
We now live in a world of greed and corruption. The sports pages, used to be immune from the scandals of the rest of the paper and were something for young people to look up to and to aspire towards. This article speaks to those lost values. Congratulations to these fine young ladies for reminding us of what has almost been totally lost. There is more than just wining, there is character development and these athletes demonstrate that. It is noted that this was instilled by their coach in High School. Reread her words about teamwork and see how it has paid off and what these fine young ladies have become. This philosophy about sports and student athletes is quite admirable and appreciated. Thanks Coach for reminding the rest of us.

“It all started here in high school. We had three players that could've scored 30-40 points by themselves. But we asked them to share the basketball and play as a team. Now, they're doing the same thing on their college teams,” Gibbs said.“I would tell them just to relax and enjoy the moment and just do what they do best."

It sure would be nice if this coach still thought this way, or should I say enforced this attitude. AHS girls team did not play as a team this year. So much going on with them and so much ball handling and hogging. I don't feel that is was all the coaches fault either, but as coaches, the responsibility does rest on them. The players dealt with attitudes that they themselves should deal with but did not. They are a group of great players, but never came together as a team. They need to work on this if they plan on a good future after high school. Teamwork is so important in life.
