Is this the best OSU hoops team since the late 50s/early 60s.....Super deep...great shooters...unstoppable force inside...very solid point guard...Only time will tell.....

The competition wasn't exactly top notch. Let's hope they can do this in the Big Ten.

Sullinger: 5 assists. Lighty: "as long as we win the game, I'm happy." TV shot: Diebler and Lighty on the bench, late in the game, joking with each other. This team wins because of chemistry, balance, unselfishness.

The competition may not be top-notch but Georgetown only beat them by 15 at home, UNC Chapel Hill beat them by 11 at home and they beat Auburn (although Auburn is horrible). OSU goes out and crushes them by 47 and it could have been much worse.

The thing about this team is that no one has really been close to them, even the teams that were suppose to make it close.

The one thing that stands out right now is that they cannot afford for Sullinger to get injured or get in foul trouble. I think they are still a really good team without him and the more Thomas develops the less of an issue it will be but right now they will have their hands full with teams like Minny, Purdue, and MSU if Sullinger is not on the floor much. He makes the other team pick their poison on defense. Without him the other teams can put more pressure on the perimeter and risk the inside game.

The team looked good last night. But, as we go into the Big 11 play, I am wondering what such a weak pre-season schedule will do for them? Should be interesting. Another thought: The crowds are real quiet during the games. I have seen high school crowds be louder than Buckeye crowds. I know that the kids are out of school, however at times last night, it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. That amazed me.

OK, so they were not playing Duke, I get it. But I am still excited about this team! They are playing every game to win. Their shooting and defense is strong on the perimeter, mid range and in the paint.Their rebounding is much improved from the start of the year.
They share the ball and get it to whoever is “HOT” at the time. They are playing as a unit, no hero’s no losers. Coach Matta keeps them focused and is in their face when they start playing down to the competition. I like it! GO BUCKS!!

It would have very cool to see Lighty break or tie Jon's OSU record then have Jonny D.(D is for deadly) come back later in the year and break the record again. Oh well wasn't meant to be. But what a well rounded team. There can be a different scoring leader on any given night. Very impressive. Lets continue the trend throughout the Big Ten season. The league is going to be a tough battle and we need to be prepared each and every game. Do not let up. Your a very good team but still have not reached your potential. Go Bucks!

This is the best part of the team. Adjust your defense to stop one or two guys and another will take over. Great job Bucks!

"Weak pre-season schedule"?? Florida away, Florida State away, Oakland coming up! The pre-season is toughest
when they play against each other in practice.

Can't see anyone beating this team. There are too many weapons. You can't focus on one guy. Sullinger was off his game last night and Diebler was, too, but Lighty picked up the pace.
I know that the Big Ten will be tough, but this team is, too. Add the experience and the bench, which did not exist last year, and you have a very good team!

I think Coach Matta's found a pretty good mix of opponents in this preseason. Asheville could be called a cupcake but they played UNC pretty tough and beat Auburn, so they're not exactly Presbyterian or the sisters of the poor or whatever Gordon Gee said. Oakland has upset a couple giants, Florida and Florida State on the road were games that I don't think last years team would have won under the same circumstances and they beat the daylights out of a long, athletic South Carolina team. Regardless of whom they are playing, there is something different about this basketball team. Be it chemistry or just overwhelming talent or Jared Sullinger, something just feels different. I think a lot of other Buckeye fans can feel it too.

Lots of good comments here. I don't think I've been as pumped about a basketball season since the Jim Jackson days. Last year, it was all Evan Turner. This year, if one or two guys are off one night, the others pick up the slack. I love their unseflishness. So much fun to watch!

Matta built the right schedule for this team - he had 4 supporting role starters who needed to learn to win without ET and he was bringing in 6 (six!)freshman!

A couple of ranked opponents, and plenty of opportunities to let guys grow and learn. So far so good - multiple scorers stepping up to counter opponents defensive moves, Sullinger a beast out of the box, Craft exceeding expectations, Thomas showing flashes.

Don't assume this team won't have an off night - but they sure look like a B10 title contender and deep NCAA candidate.

Can you spell DUKE!!! This is the game everyone wants to see not a bunch of 3rd rate teams. That being said a number of teams in the top 20 have played some tough competition but the norm is for teams to warm up with easy schedules. I'm afraid we'll have to wait until the NCAA tourney for the Duke/OSU showdown if it happens at all..........

this is the greatest college basketball team ever assembled. They will go undefeated just like the mighty Pearland Oilers Football team.

What the uconn women did is great, but let's not get carried away by saying they can beat any men's basketball team. You do know the basketball in the women's game is smaller than the ball used in the men's game right? If the women had to play with bigger balls, they would have a much harder time getting them in the basket. If the men had to play with smaller balls, they would score like crazy.

It never ceases to amaze me that there is so much negativity on these threads. When ET left last year, Matta was given the problem of replacing the NPOY. He seems to have succeeded but is anyone giving him credit? It seems not. I've been following the Bucks for a number of years and I have yet to see a more complete team playing for Ohio State. To the morons who think the schedule is too "soft",I suggest you find the teams that plays all ranked teams in the non-conference portion of their season. That will never happen so just SHUT Up about it. The part that is astounding to me is that when one player is not having a stellar night, one of the other players step up their game and takes up the slack. Not too long ago, all the talk was about Sully having 40 pts then 30 points, then Deebs hits 9 treys then lighty has 7. Is this team amazing or what? If the only thing you can find to criticize is nit picky stuff, then just stay off the blogs and keep quiet
