Is there anything the Aggies beat the Lobos at? They beat the Aggies football, women's basketball twice, and men's basketball twice. I guess the Lobos have the Aggies number.

Of course at the end of the day, they still have to live in Albuquerque, so who are the real losers here?

with 3 seconds left in the game why wouldnt you put all your shooters in, that way you can have all options open the Aggie center is not a shooter. The coach is blaming alot of players but he needs to look a balming himself.

Kcat, you are absolutely right. Menzies has blamed his players all season long and has not once taken the blame himself. He has no control over his players, whether it is regarding attending practice, following plays, etc. Menzies is not much of a coach and never will be. However, look at our women's BB team, our football team, our baseball team, CC & T & F. At some point NMSU administrators need to realize that our AD, Boston, is the real problem. He is an arrogant smart-ass and a sorry AD. As long as he is in command, our sports programs will continue to drop.
Our men's BB team is potentially one of our best, but with Menzies, they might end up near last place in the conference standings, where they are currently. Our girl's BB team ... forget them. Spence and Spence are worse than Menzies and Boston. The only sport worth watching at NMSU is girl's volleyball. MJ is an incredible coach and they will always be good as long as he is here and they continue to play their game, not Boston's.

I had a case of the Menzies once, caught it from an Aggie cheerleader. Thankfully Penicillin cleared it right up.

I agree with Kcat (why wasn't Gordo in on the last play?) and Aggie Fan (Coach Spence has underachieved for 5 years).
Menzies isn't stepping up to the plate and focusing on his coaching. I realize we're playing a lot of freshman but I can't believe our talent level isn't allowing us to beat lesser teams (like North Texas and LBS). Once again, Alford outplayed him and was able to draw up a game plan that shut down our top scorer.
After 18 months, I'm still on the fence about Menzies.
I'll be red-in-the-face mad if I hear another comment about lack of fan support with a team that's 1-3 against our rivals and has a losing record.

Jeff, I have the same question, its obvious the small
University South of Albuquerque on I-25 can't be
competitive in anything with the big University.
Anytime the Aggies suffer a defeat from the mighty
Lobo's, it makes my day.

Youth, youth, and more youth. Aggie Fans the restof this season is going to be like the Aggie/Lobo Game. Two juniors on this team the rest all freshman and sophmores. Menzies can recruit, his coaching, the jury is still out. A coach should take the blame in a lose in the papers and in front of the tv camera. And behind closed doors he can place blame. Menzies needs to teach this team how to play a full 40 minutes. I also a good enough person to say the Lobos did what they had to do the win. They are a good team. Yeah in all sports it looks like the are on top of the Aggies. Yet Mighty UNM with all it's resouces and money who should have killed the Men's B-ball. Won by a little margin. Mighty UNM just hired a football coach like NMSU, but they beat NMSU, wow. UNM goes to all the bowls game and the NCAA post season tourneys. I one day hope a little old aggie fan cna visit the Mighty UNM Campus and see all the NCAA Championships. Oh yeah you overpaid for your Basketball Coach that Iowa did not want anymore.

Tell me 'A Total Lobo', which team has made more NCAA tournaments? That would be the Aggies. In fact, NMSU has made more than UNM and UTEP. Not bad for a smaller school with a athletic budget 1/4 the size.

As for the game, this team is young. I think they are going to have an up and down season. One game they will flash brilliant potential and the next they will play poorly. I would say 16-13 or 17-12 for the regular season. They are still a year away from being where we all want them to be.

One thing that stands out to me about this team is rebounding. Menzies needs to have the team work on the basics. They give up way too many offensive rebounds. I also agree with the poster above, why in the hell is Ramen taking the last shot? Gibson, Young, McKinnies, or Castillo should be taking that shot. As for McKinnies, it puzzles me why this guy sits on the bench for long stretches. He is our best all around player and needs to be on the court more.

This team should get it's 5 best players on the court for the majority of the game. Young, Gibson, McKinnies, Gillenwater, and either Laroche or Ramen. I have yet to be impressed by Laroche as a point guard, so why not just go with Young and Gibson.

These last few games, Gillenwater has lost minutes, which may be due to McKinnies emergence. You have to have both of those guys on the floor at the same time.

Have you ever even played basketball before because you have no clue. Why would you want to put in all shooters for the last 3 seconds? Having a 7 footer in there that has been playing really well lately and lobbing the ball near the basket hoping he could tip it in was not a bad idea.

The coaching error came before the ball was out of bounds. Menzies should have called a timeout right away when the Aggies got the ball back with about 11 seconds left and set up a play right away.

You don't like Menzies? Well tough. Too bad for you all because he will be here 2 more years at least. Don't you think coaching a team of freshmen and sophomores he deserves a little slack? UNM had 4 seniors play a significant role last night. A lot of times the most important thing in a basketball game is experience and senior leadership. Guess what? The Aggies have none of that.

It sure would have been nice to call a play in the final seconds and have the ball in a senior, experienced point guards hands or have a senior, reliable player take the last shot, but we have none of that.

It is not very often a team in college basketball has one upper classmen on the whole team.

It is called a rebuilding year. Sure it sucks to lose but get over it and support the team and continue to watch them get better.

you dont have to play basketball to be an expert. I am a big time basketball fan I not only watch but also constantly bet on college basketball games. I watch alot of games each year than go to Vegas to bet the NCAA tournament so it helps to study a teams roster and style of play. I am not blaming Rahman for missing the shot. 3 lobos surronded him probably hacked him and did not get called for a foul, at the same time if you have shooters taking the last shot you probably wont need a tip in even with 3 seconds left you really have time for 1 pass 1 shot. I am questioning Menzies coaching because I do think he has a good team this year and with the right roster in at the right time he could have won more games. I also belive Menzies was handed a top 25 team last year. That team had size speed shooters and depth and a home court advantage. Now if you can make an argument for the coach your entitled to your opinion but the results speak for themselves.
