While the decision to NOT attempt a field goal and potentially go up by three scores was a bad decision from a strategic standpoint, I don't disagree with Tressel's decision to go for it. And while the actual play call was predictable and everyone in the stadium, to include the Navy players, knew what was coming, the real issue is the fact that we were unable to convert. If you can't control the line of scrimmage against Navy YOU HAVE ISSUES. And these are the same issues we have seen for the last three years. Overall, the Buckeyes' performance was poor at best. Midway thru the third quarter the starters should have been on the bench. Hell, they should have been in the locker room by that time looking at USC film. The only good aspect of that game was the fact that we did face adversity and we were able to come out with a victory. I don't think the game this weekend is going to be pretty. I think we will see that there is a HUGE difference between the product that Carroll puts on the field and the product that Tressel puts on the field. I hope I am wrong.

What is wrong with spreading the field and hitting a short yardage pass like so many other effective offenses are doing now? Did anybody watch the Cincinnati game against Rutgers? Could it be that we are in denial about our own "talented" team and the greatness of our program? When are we going to wake up and realize that we are mediocre at best. We do have talent. It is a shame that we have a stoneage offense. There is no imagination, and our plays are predicatable. Cudo's to Tressel to want to take a chance finally. Although we would be better served to take chances down the field when it is not fourth down(remember Florida?) who could forget.

The only constant on the offensive line is Bolleman and Tressel. Take your pick as to which one is the problem. We get the so called biggest, badest, dudes and turn them into cupcakes. This problem needs fixed and we all know who it is. Tressel is letting his loyalty run his career into the ground, literally

The only chance they have to avoid another embarrassing defeat on national TV this weekend is a USC team plane crash.

I re-watched the game to concentrate on the ill-feeling I had about both our lines not controlling the line of scrimmage. The first thing that is apparent is the reason Navy led the nation 4 straight years. Although undersized, they are very physical and well schooled at cut blocking. On defense, again small but physical and very good athletes. I hate to single out one man on a unit of 11, but the glaring hole on the line is Jim Cordle. I counted 7 times were he was completely beat by his man that directly affected the outcome of the play. Constantly out of position, causing Browning numerous times to play out of his position to cover Cordle's man. He seemed to be two steps slower, quitting countless times before the play was over. He probably had one of if not the lowest OL game grades in OSU history. If Tressel and Bowman fail to make a change, captain or not, the Buckeyes will have ZERO chance of beating USC. Jim Cordle, not the entire o-line, is the weakest link so far for the 2009 Buckeyes. I hope Tressel does the right thing, for the sake of the team. GO BUCKS!

Bolleman has got to go. I agree with OP that Tres loyality is costing the offensive line to suffer.

I want the Bucks to do well against USC but I think we will be beat.

I almost do not want to watch.

When is Gene Smith going to start acting like Tressel's boss and demand he either fire Jim Bolman, or he does it himself...this O'line has sucked for 8 yrs...and the playcalling is horribly unimaginitive....the players don't develop at all...we are going to be absolutely destroyed Sat nigh again...we need to wake up to the fact that OSU is no longer an elite program...

Yup. 105.000 fans, 11 Navy players and my dog knew what the play would be that JT would call. The man is as predictable as the tides. It wasn't just a lack of execution by the line, it was a lack of creativity from the coach too. Should we have pushed out an undersized Navy line? Yes. But then again, when 11 guys know what is coming, being undersized is not as much of a disadvantage.

Jim Tressel is winning on talent abd talent alone. There is absolutely no coaching going on in the program. It's hard for us fans to come to gripe with that fact, especially after winning a NC, but Tressel's career has imploded. A change won't happen anytime soon, but I'll bet three years from now we have a complete coaching shake-up. This era is starting to out stink Cooper's era. I'll bet the high rollers who bought seats for Saturday's game is feeling pretty sick.

Going for it on a 4th and 2, when it wasn't a necessary touchdown... don't you think that is the opposite of conservative? Everyone is bitchen about Tress doing it, but why? Everyone always complains when Tress plays conservative! I think a lot of fans need to pull out their scarlett tampons.

You're right. Cordle sucks. So does Russell. They need to leave Hines in 24/7.

My posts keep getting taken down because I am critical of Jim Tressel. Here is a list of bums that will never be grace another respectable college team's staff again.
Head Coach: Jim Tressel
Offensive coordinator/offensive line: Jim Bollman
Assistant head coach/receivers: Darrell Hazell
Tight ends/recruiting coordinator: John Peterson
Quarterbacks: Nick Siciliano
Running backs: Dick Tressel
Defensive coordinator: Jim Heacock
Co-defensive coordinator/linebackers: Luke Fickell
Cornerbacks: Taver Johnson
Safeties: Paul Haynes

When you call the same off tackle play that had NO success the previous three times you ran it you certainly don't call it on fourth and two. Fake the handoff and throw it to the tight end or at the very least let TP run the bootleg.
We have the talent but other then the WR's, LB's and DB's (excluding A.Russell)who get coached up the OL seems to get coached down.

He was conservative, now he is just a nervous coward. He doesn't control the game. Anyway, I think he went for it to please Pryor, who was all about going for it. But don't roll Pryor to the outside to pass or run, that would make way too much sense. Tressel is conservative, but he has been taken out of his game because he is constantly outwitted, backed into a corner, and cowering. To bad it seems were stuck with him.

Is there a quarterback controversy at OSU? Why would you take T.P. out in the second quarter? He doesn't need playing time to get in sync with the offense for next weeks game? It's the same repetetive mistakes year after year, masked in some kind of secretive genius coaching, ha. The only coach Tressel fools is himself. To his credit he has fooled you retarted fans who defend him. "The talented team of 2002" won that national championship, which everyone attributes to Jim Tressel. He and his crony coaches can sell you mediocrity and you suck it down and ask for seconds. Big Ten titles mean nothing these days, thanks in large part to the Buckeyes own weak image they project across the nation. Is this guy worth 3 million, couldn't we squander teriffic talent away year after year for 50ok?

Jim Tressel may well be one of the greatest Humanitarian's to ever coach Football. But the Great Ohio native coaches are all coaching FOOTBALL, somewhere else. ie, Urban Meyer, at Florida. He gave The Senator a lesson in the National championship game and exposed Tressel to the world for the horrible game time coach really is.Tressel never plays to win, he plays not to loose. I think as others have said " his loyalty to Jim Bollman, is an insult to OSU and any other institution of higher learning, These men have learned nothing from the beating's they have taken. Mr Tressel needs to read his own book, or maybe he had a ghost writer. How offensive is it to come to OSU. and not get to display the great talents our recruits have, Tressel needs to quit an become the recruiting co-ordinator ( he is a great recruiter) and let the University hire a coach who understands we our no longer in the 1970"s It is 2009 and time has passed him by. As for Bollman, He never had it.

I am starting to get tired of Tress. Same tired plays, The line plays like they are in a pillow fight. Lack of any imagination of offense. Tressel needs to find a offensive coordinator with some creativity and imagination. I would also take a serious look at the line coaches. Otherwise Truss should be the one looking for a new job.

I'm already starting to worry about Michigan beating us. Before the Navy game, I thought for sure we had Big Blue's # for the next 2-3 years.
