QB change option for struggling offense?

I don't advocate criticizing college athletes, particularly those that attend service academies, effectively volunteering for military service at a time of war. However, Navy is a much better team with Kaipo at QB. And as a USNA supporter, Navy needs Kaipo back ASAP but if that doesn't happen a switch to Dobbs should be made for the reasons the writer indicates. Beyond that, the plan going into this season was for Bryant to play significant time at slot back, sharing time with White, a very capable runner. Under Paul Johnson, Navy's rushing attack was formidable in large part because he utilized several slot backs simultaneously and, consequently, they were always fresh and it was more difficult to game plan against and make mid-game adjustments. It seems now that opposing defenses are containing the rushing attack by designating a rover for Shun White and stuffing the middle against the first option, Kettani. It seems that with Bryant playing some at slot and at least the threat of a pass at QB (to at least keep opposing defenses honest), an added dimension to Navy's offense would be helpful as the team's offense has clearly regressed, in the post-Paul Johnson years.
Lastly, it was an injury to the very capable starting QB two years ago that allowed Kaipo to learn firsthand the intricacies of the triple option that made the offense so efficient in wins at Notre Dame and Pitt last year. This season has been a relative success given the wins at Wake and Air Force and the probable subsequent bowl game invitation with two more wins. However, the team's success this year is due less to the Paul-Johnson-like offensive juggernaut and more to an improved defense and special teams. The Wake victory (beating a ranked team) is something that even the great Paul Johnson never accomplished while at Navy. So, it it is OK to look ahead to next year and focus on becoming more efficient offensively.

NC State â 27
Maryland - 10
Maryland will finish with a 5-7 record.
I am extremely happy that Penn State is ranked number 3 in the country - and very soon to be ranked number one --- this will definitely hurt Maryland's recruiting - thank god !!!
I am happy that Maryland is no longer recruiting Tavon Austin.
Jelani Jenkins, Travis Hawkins and Isaac Holmes will be signing with the University of Florida.

I didn't see any plays that gave the QB a real option until the fourth quarter. It appeared that coach gave up on the Navy option attack before the game. He was calling trick plays in the first series.

Ellis and Mike are right on. There used to be several guys who could be called on in the option, and sometimes you weren't sure who had the ball until the play was over. Now it seems to be either hand off to Kettani or White, or let Bryant try to run, and nobody has to do much guessing. The plan to play Bryant at slot back seemed like a great way to open up the offense even more.
How about trying Bryant at slot back with Dobbs at QB? The SMU and Temple games seem like an opportunity to try something different (since the same old, same old just isn't working) before we have to play Notre Dame and Army, which is coming on strong.
We've got some great talent, but we need to find a better way to use it all.
