Not even an NIT bid.....the ultimate insult. Minnesota sports teams, both pro & collegiate, pretty much all suck, with the exception of MAYBE the Twins.

Bad week for UM sports along with the hockey team being eliminated and Goldie getting punched in the face at a gymnastics meet pretty much sums up the respect they get.

Gophers athletics director Joel Maturi couldn't be reached for comment. Nice.

The athletic program lacks strong leadership, plain & simple.

The Maturi era. Minnesota sports hour of shame. The football program, the Basketball program and the Hockey program are all in the dumpster!

With that nail in the coffin shouldn't the Maturi era be coming 2to a close?

The fact that the men's hockey team has now been shut out of the NCAA tournament three straight years should be evidence enough that there is a lack of competent leadership in the U of M sports department. For good measure, add in the deplorable decision-making surrounding the coaching contracts of the football and women's basketball programs that have cost and will continue to cost the school and taxpayers millions of dollars. Despite this, we see an administration that is satisfied with allowing the athletic director to retire on his own terms and on his own timetable. Incompetence, or cronyism, or both are now the hallmarks of a once-proud university.

The Gophers beat UNC and WV and couldn't make the NIT with a 17-14 record? Give me a break. We just thought the NCAA process was flawed as one of the better authorities in basketball Jay Bilas expressed. This is more of a joke.

You know whats great about Wisconsin college sports?
The Badgers. They win.
Minnesota gophers are a joke.
What do you expect when you hire a coach named " Tubby "?

A final insult? They got what they deserved which is an early end to a pathetic season. Now I see why Tubby got dumped in Kentucky.

Gopher supporters have no backbone because they're a bunch of 60 year old white men with no passion. Fire Maturi fools!!!!!!!!!!

I think the team would even agree that they didn't deserve a post season invitation for tournament play.

how will RALPH be able to show his skills for future NBA consideration if the Gophers arent in postseaon. poor poor Ralph. I bet he slept thru the tournament pairings anyway.

What do you mean, snubbed. They do not deserve to be in any tournament. They suck and it is time for the coach to go. They all come here and promise a change. They can go to the High School Basketball tournament and probably end up losing there, that is how bad they are. Quit your whining, the season is over.

The Basketball teams are a mess- although i could see the boys basketball rebounding quickly. The hockey and Football are a mess, although I think that Kill may be pretty good when it is all said and done.

Next year HAS to be a make or break year for men's basketball and Hockey. Period. If they don't do great-and go at least very deep in the NCAA tournament, both coaches will need to go. That's my opinion anyway. Lucia should already be gone.
