Another Maturi/Bruinicks success story. Good try Tubby at creating a distraction from your coaching, the loss of players and a terrible season. My heart goes out to the players who have endured this drama.
Oh Thank You Tubby

No definitive timeline = no contract extension? Yippeeee!!! Thanks Tubby for giving the University an out. Let Tubby set a timeline on making a significant dent in that promise of recruiting AND developing top basketball talent for the Gophers. Otherwise, let his contract run out and get a new, younger, hungrier, player-friendly coach in that program. Time for Tubby to put up or shut up.

If its a $15 million facility, thats $15 million for probably a local company and some local workers. Further, the idea is that the University finds donors to pay for the facility, just as they had to get donors to support TCF Bank Stadium. Part of Maturi's job is to connect with donors. Who knows what was promised to Smith when he came? He may be tired of empty promises. What I don't get is all the basketball experts that show up and toss out the cheap shots! Run your own program. At least Smith is willing to step up and take the criticism with some sort of dignity. Most of the haters here hide behind their user names and are rarely constructive.
You are a deluded sports nerd. The amount of money spent on sports is asinine.

"Tubby Smith wants a timetable for a new practice facility before he signs a contract extension." The University should be asking Tubby Smith about a timetabe for some Final Four action and a NCAA title or two before they even think about a contract extension.

He is a sad, lifeless, dolt still able to hang on to collect charity checks. Does it get any sadder than Maturi and the Tubby? Can't recall the Maroon and Gold being in a lower state of affairs!"
Don--didn't realize you were senile. Can you recall Don Monson?

Or better yet, we could win some more NIT championships and make a final four with Clem Haskins just to have them revoked again?? I guess that heartbreak sounds good huh?? And for all of you that think you have a PhD in basketball and want to say he only won with Pitino kids are ridiculous! Yeah they weren't his recruits, but i promise if you put Dan Monson as the coach on that 98 Kentucky team they would not have won the championship. PERIOD! And how about when Tubby came in and took over Monson's team? Lets not forget Nolen and Hoffarber weren't Tubby's recruits. He took a 9-22 team and turned it into a 20-13 team the very next season. He is a winning coach. And PS this isn't Kentucky or Kansas. Try not to forget that it is Minnesota hockey and NOT Minnesota basketball that is rich in tradition and winning. We cant get mad every time we have a bad basketball season and want to throw out each coach. You all are ridiculous. Its one bad season, it happens.

Home court advantage comes from players practicing in the same arena in which they play their games. They are more familiar shooting at those baskets against that background, they know where the dead spots on the floor are, etc.
Practicing at one facility and playing at another eliminates the home field advantage except for the fans part of it, which is minor.
Anybody who doesn't know these things shouldn't be coaching at any level.
If that were the case why would all other unversities in the country except Butler 't build these practice facilities? You are speaking from the wrong end here Bob. Its a basic requirement and its sad the university hasn't provided the basics and its 2011.
That is just another reminder that the university doesn't fund its athletics properly to compete at any level. They fund it like is a club team. Blame the Presidents and Board of Regents.

I get that people are frustrated because of last years collapse but they didn't have a point guard.
Anyone that knows basketball knows you win nothing without guards. Any team thats how it works. Take a PG off off NC,Duke,UCONN ...and they lose. Sad to see all the negativity towards Tubby who is respected in the coaching ranks.
The fans need to relax.
The negative reaction here doesn't meet reality of the situation. Tubby doesn't deserve the Brewster treatment he is getting.
