cradlebaugh may be the living example why real civilized countrues understand this is a MEDICAL problem and not a criminal one: because this guy is a weakling in emotional ways we are expected to to pay a quarter of a million in taxes so he can do it again in 7 years

how can we tell these addicts its a disease and then send them to prioson for no other offense or crime (like a wreck)? anyone being sent to prison for the mumps?

we will never solve any problem if it isn't addressed with the right tools, and if jailing drunks worked, terry cradlebaugh would not be going to prison at an absurd and ridiculous cost to taxpayers, because he's been there over and over already...put him in a hospital with no key

I hope this doesn't read like sarcasm. I seriously think this is impressive, and will help keep people safe, since people won't be subjected to this guy on the roads. I'm glad the judge took prosecutors seriously, and gave this guy a stiff sentence. As far as treatment vs. prison, I don't know what the solution is, but I know this: I value my life and the lives of my loved ones. Moreso than this guy does, anyway. So, if it takes putting him in prison, so be it. I want to make it home alive.

He is NOT going to jail for being an Alcoholic, he is going to jail for driving while intoxicated. VERY big difference. Pay attention to the facts and quit complaining for the sake of complaining.

You can not make the roads safe by sentencing long years and severely punishing the alcohol drink vulnerable gullible drunk drivers and obviously their families. As long as you remain silence and do nothing about those alcohol drink governing bosses who greedily license and market such extremely dangerous high-alcohol drinks for public consumption in the name of Standard Alcohol Drinks, which as the alcohol(ism)epidemiological surveys pointing out, causes almost all those drunk driving specially its accidents!--- The root-cause of drunk driving lies in the “misconduct”,“vested interest” of the alcohol drink controlling authorities that I mentioned above.--------As long as it continues the drunk driving mayhem will continue more or less much the same!------- Drunk drivers indeed are the alcohol beguiled, gullible vulnerable people made into a scapegoat for the wrongs of those alcohol bosses.

How much money do you think we would spend if we sent him to a rehab facility or a hospital? A hell of a lot more than what we are spending for prison. If he wasn't drinking and driving maybe it would be just a medical problem. But unfortuantely for us, he gets behind the wheel over and over again. Therefore it becomes a criminal problem. He is a threat to society.

Let's turn this one racial like most of the cowardly, racist middle-aged white guys on this forum do.

Why is it that most of the multiple DUI offenders are white?

German and Irish heritage, usually.

I actually don't care, but since people on this site like to be racist, I thought I would fit in.

I expect a lot of posts. Too bad that I won't read them, since none will contain the answer to the question: why are most multiple DUI offenders (and serial killers and pedophiles, too, but that is for another day)German- and Irish-Americans?

Who the hell died and made you God? This my brother you want to kill...who by the way has never hurt anyone! I am amazed at some of you people...I am sick of how AL_CO_holics are treated. And I am just as Mad as MADD.
You do no justice locking up a non violent offender. Why don't you educate yourself. We pay so much money to lock up AL-coholics that are non violent offenders. We should be figuring out why our system is failing to appropriate funds for treatment. We are lining the pockets of the jail system. Because it is a big $$$ industry.
Wake up people we can not keep warehousing alcoholics like we did mental patients years ago!
If you think that I have not been effected a drunk drivers ingnorance behind the wheel...you are mistaken. I have an Aunt and Uncle and cousin that were hit by a drunk driver. My cousin was in a coma for months and will never be the same. My Aunt and Uncle will have to care for her the rest of their lives. The man that hit them will forever live with what happened. But he will no where near be impacted the way they have been. My point is that I have been on both sides of the fence. I also know that if we start locking people up for what they "might" do...we are all in trouble!!

You really have no idea how much it costs to incarderate someone do you. I wonder if you really are a cops wife? Or are you wishing you were?? I'm just curious?? My brother will do the time for this...but have you read the papers lately at what the people are getting for actual assaults? I guess you haven't maybe your husband can tell you...that is if he is a cop. I can tell you a man just beat the living crap out of his girlfriend she spent 2 days in the hospital...he got 2 years for aggrivated assault. 2 Years compaired to my brother who is spending 6 for what he could've done???? Oh yeah that makes sence!

Do you know how much it costs to incarcerate someone? Probably not. Cops aren't the ones to talk to about sentencing for assaults. It depends on a lot of factors, for one thing. Talk to the people responsible for sentencing guidelines. What level felony is aggravated assault? What's the guy's record? What were the circumstances? Compare that to what level felony someone's THIRTEENTH DUI is. What's THIS guy's record?

A search on several reputable city and state websites shows the average cost to house a inmate per day was approx $125.00 in 2005 (the latest year with stats avaialble). Figures for inpatient rehab programs range anywhere from $200-$800 dollars a day.

Your Brother is a threat to society. Anyone who represents a significant risk to the safety of others belongs behind bars. Do I condone releasing violent offenders for non violent ones? Of course not. But your Brother does not fit into the nonviolent category either.

A quick look at your Brothers record (and that was no easy feat considering how long his rap sheet is at Akron Muni. which had approx 20 incidents) shows he was arrested for domestic violence, forgery, disorderly conduct, soliciting, criminal trespass, and assault. And I didn't even bother looking at more than eight records.

Thanks. I feel really bad for his family, but come on, enough is enough already. At some point they have to focus the blame in the right direction for their own sakes as well as their Brothers.
