Apparently Illini are pretenders. Coach Weber must have gotten all his questions about them answered today as they faded down the stretch...ala 2007-8 season.

Exactly. Playing 2 games on the road to start the big ten season you really couldn't hope for much more than 1-1. Any road game in the big ten is gonna be tough to win. See 10 days from now when Michigan comes to Illinois then run your mouth ty welke. And Bruce Weber might be the best coach in the country and is deff the most underrated. Just wait till the next couple years when he actually has the talent to go with his coaching. I really dont believe any other coach, Roy Williams, Coach K, whomever could do any better than 13-2 with this team. That record with the players we have is terrific. Anybody can coach as the coaches i named above when they have the best talent in the country, lets see them coach with the talent Weber is coaching rite now.

Good effort by the Illini who got beat by a strong team playing at home.
Big 10 has always been a tough basketball conference and it is not easy to win on the road.

To date, Illini are playing better ball than I thought they would.

Michigan played with more heart and energy and shut down Illini over the last few minutes to take the lead. I think Illinois got frazzled near the end and committed way too many turnovers and took bad, hurried shots. Credit Michigan for pressuring them and taking it to them. Illini played more lacksadasical than usual especially Tisdale but also McCamey and Davis.

I agree, the Illini are looking good and Weber is definitely a good coach. A loss at Michigan is not big deal or a surprise. Weber has taken a lot of undeserved criticism. I predict Illinois will finish 3rd of 4th in the Big Ten, much better than anyone thought starting out the season. They should be a 5 or 6 seed in the tournament. They may be the 2nd best team in the state, though.

As far as taking it strong to the hole, seems those three also got their shots blocked repeatedly. Frazier's energy couldn't do it all and his teammates didn't match him, not even close. Michigan played much better defense and pressured outside shooters while Illinois left Michigan 3-point shooters open left and right. Davis didn't play with the heart and defensive tenacity he showed against Purdue especially with Tisdale not even showing up.

Weber is a good coach but he is partly to blame for the Illini choking at the end of games and playing lazily. It is his job to keep them motivated, charged up and driven while maintaining their composure. He needs to keep every one of them accountable and get on them even more.

Peter E....EXACTLY ! They have to fight and scrap for every Big Ten win they can muster. Taking "time off" has no place in this conference. The Illini are deep enough that Coach Weber need not tolerate "me first" players who shoot irrespective of score and clock and play at times outside the parameters of the system. I think he needs to pull players immediately after they make a bonehead play and correct them immediately on the sideline. Their margin of error is minimal, so they must maximize their effort, intensity and play smart BB throughout each game. IFurther, if their big guys don't show up every game, they have little chance of being successful on a regular basis this season. They have to steal some more conference road games to truly compete for Big Ten honors.

Huh?

Illinois' only 2 losses are to a talented Michigan team that beat Duke and UCLA and to an undefeated Clemson team that will likely end up a 2 or 3 seed in the NCAA tournament.

John Bee-Line is a pretty good coach. I think that basketball at Michigan is finally back.
