Now I am not sure when, where or why Central High School started being called Central Sallisaw High School but this is a very inaccurate name. There is no CSHS in Sequoyah County only CHS. Central High School was built in 1926 when a School was needed that was centrally located between the towns of Akins and Hanson what was at the time the two larger towns in the County, Hence the name Central High School. Central High School is 8 miles outside the city limits of Sallisaw. When people here the name Central Sallisaw it makes them think the school is in the center of the town of Sallisaw. By calling Central High School Central Sallisaw High School you are taking away all the history, hard work, and pride that has went and goes in to CHS.
Now if the City of Sallisaw had anything to do with Central High School the name Central Sallisaw High School might be justified, but it does not. The City of Sallisaw airs all of Sallisaw High Schools home football and basketball games on their cable network, their game schedules are always on the City’s new LED marquee, the Sallisaw police department has been known to escort the busses out of town on their way to game, the town shuts down for Sallisaw High Schools homecoming parade, and on game days there is Black Diamond flags flying all over town. None of this is done for Central High School.
When you drive into Sallisaw there is a Black Diamond on the welcome to Sallisaw Sign but no Tiger on it. The “county paper” still does not even give us fair press. The lady Tigers just won the county basketball tournament and the article about them wining was 2 pages behind the article about the lady Diamonds wining a regular season game. It has even got to the point that the last few issues they have not had one story about anything to do with any Central athletics.
So please stop giving the town of Sallisaw credit that all of our students, athletes, and alumni have worked so hard for. I know this for a fact no jersey that has ever been worn by a central athlete or any diploma that has been earned by a Central student has ever said Sallisaw on it.

Central is not a city/town. It is a rural Sallisaw community. Therefore it is Sallisaw Central. Looks to me like the Central community dropped Sallisaw out of its name. In all retrospect if Central doesn't want to be affiliated with Sallisaw why complain about the way they support their students?
