2400 over TEN years? That's asinine.

That's 4 buildings of 600 people. FAU could fill one building every year for four years. Once the stadium is up, they could probably fill 2. All of that could be done by 2012 at the latest.

John, I can't tell what the tone of your post is....But the development of the entire innovation village is a 10 year project, the first phase of which include dorms. Eventually down the line (probably towards the end of the 10 years) they will be building a new Arena..<cough>.. I mean CONVOCATION center right next to the stadium. The additional 2400 number would put us right around the same on-campus percentage as UF, UCF, etc.

GO OWLS!! BEAT TEXAS!

Wait a minute. The University, as opposed to the athletic department, selling development rights for dormitories means no competitive bidding. FAU is now using public funding to build the stadium. This changes the entire picture.

Max,

What are you talking about? There are 4 companies bidding(according to an article in the Palm Beach Post) for the development rights. This would be money from a private company going toward a a private project(the inovation village). No public funding is involved.

What a stupid comment. You really hate FAU right? It seems you went to UM and that's good for you. I hope you are not still paying your student loans or maybe you were lucky enough to have parents with money. Remember that UM has been around for over 80 years and UM was the only school around SoFL by that time. It was and it is a school for rich people plus a successful athletics program. All these things combined make your school popular but not everything at UM is top notch.
FAU has been around almost for 50 years and it has a campus 3 times bigger than UM.
You should know that the pre-med students at FAU get full access at UM's medical programs. By the way, Law and Medicine are the only good programs at UM. I would not pay 70K for a career at UM for other majors. no way!
By the way!!!! when UM is going to get a stadium? You should with all that Ivy League education, money and tradition LOL!!!!
Stupid loser!!
Don't compare FAU to UM please and tell all those red-neck fans of yours to be genuine because I am pretty sure that half of the fans did not even attend UM!!!!

DONT FEED THE TROLL!

8-)

Good news all around. Now our Owls will have a good home instead of a dilapidated HS reject in a warehouse district.

So FAU is still pursuing building a stadium. No big surprise I guess after the university moved from being a highly praised academia to a 'sports first, academics last' institution.

I just hope that FAU, the city of Boca Raton, Palm Beach county and the state of Florida DOT all have their arrangements for traffic control and news ramps for an I-95-Spanish River Blvd interchange to be built BEFORE this new stadium and dorms are built and opened. Otherwise there is absolutely no reason the city, county or state should allow FAU to build and further congest Glades Rd and others in Boca.

NotStyro:

The construction of a stadium on campus would have minimal impact on the 9-5 commute. Plus its on state land so the city and county and do nothing and the state doesnt regulate land uses..except on its own land and as we all know the FAU Board controls that for FAU. Case closed. The interchange would be nice, but its not FAU dragging their feet on it.
