Terps get leg up

Full story: Baltimore Sun

It was late in the game, and Maryland was living dangerously. Trailing by one, the Terrapins had lost a fumble in their own territory to open the fourth quarter but forced a punt by North Carolina.

"With Boston College beating No.20 Florida State, 27-17, last night, the win means the Terps (7-3, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) would take the ACC's Atlantic Division title with a victory over the visiting Seminoles on Saturday night."

This is incorrect. If Maryland beats FSU next Saturday and Wake wins against BC, then yes, Maryland would be on its way to Tampa. But if Maryland beats FSU and BC then beats Wake and Maryalnd, BC would be making the trip to the ACCCG. Maybe you meant Maryland would be guaranteed a tie for a share of the title, but I find that sentence misleading.

Great win. I'm a little concerned about the well being of some of the negative Maryland "fans" out there. Maybe some of them only speak up after a loss. Thats too bad.

Uh-oh - what are the those crazy kids bob and anti-gary going to do today. don't worry, i am sure they can find some thread of doom and unhappiness to concentrate on in this win over a ranked opponent.

hmmm, those cheerleaders were a little less hot than they could be? fire the cheerleader coach!! and the field looked a little worn and wet...fire the maintenance people!! someone in the band missed a note on on of their songs - FIRE THEM ALL.

It's probably tough when you call yourself a fan (which we know you aren't) and you are praying for a demoralizing loss for the terps so you can try to crow "I told you so" in the papers comment section. that's some life.

This was simply a terrific college football game. It brought back memories for me of another UNC vs. UM game from the early 1980's when both teams were nationally ranked and one Boomer Esiason was leading the Terps. That was probably the game that got me hooked as a Terps fan.
While this team has given us some games this year that left us all bewildered, it has shown a great deal of character at coming back from those games and winning some close contests.
Congratulations to Coach Friedgen and the Terps on a great win.

Terps will beat Florida St. next week, as a #23 ranked team. This should end the gloomy speculation for the fair weather fans, for now.....

Great win against a tough team. The roller coaster ride continues!
I am the first to admit that we're not in the top tier of teams in college football this season. That being said, I'll take the Terps against almost anybody else in the country.
Look out Fla State. The Terps are going to take you down!

Go Terrapins! Great win against yet another ranked team. There was, however, an instant where I realized why the Terps are not among the "top tier..." as Colorado Terrapin observed. On the play that ended NC's last drive, McCollough and the rest of the team started celebrating as soon as he intercepted Sexton's pass, then he ran off the field instead of toward NC's goal line, with time still on the clock. Any player with a true winner's instinct would have tried to advance the ball. Great play, Jamari, but I hope Coach ripped you a new one for your display after the interception. I hope that you kick the Seminole's butts next week.

pgp, your comment makes absolutely no sense at all. When McCollough interecepted the pass, he jumped, caught the ball and fell to the ground from the making the play. In college, once you are on the ground, the play is dead and the player is ruled down, whether he was touched by a defender or not. In the pros he could have got up and ran, but not in college. Learn the rules of the game before making such an asinine statement. He would have looked like a moron if he had gotten up and ran the ball back towards the endzone. Great win for the terps, great college game to watch.

Yeah, it was a great win. I was at the game yesterday and it was a tense one. We got a couple of UNC fans sitting a couple rows behind us and they were those obnoxious type, trying to be as loud as they could, not just cheering for their team but trying their best to irritate Terps fans with their comments. After the last field goal they shut up...then when McCollough intercepted I turned around after some celebration to ask them how they liked that but...ah...they were gone. Another fan told me as soon as the ball was intercepted they bolted from the stands...no doubt with their tails between their legs! I loved it!! The Terps came up with another big win, I for one am hoping the Terps have finally felt a fire lit under them and we'll see fired up efforts from them the rest of the season. Every game is a new adventure with this team, can't wait until next week, hopefully the stands will be full and the stands rocking for 3 hours. I'll be there and hopefully a lot of Terp fans out there who don't have tickets will buy up the remaining available tickets..ESPN...national TV...gotta be there. Go Terps!!

OOPS! My Bad! Not assinine, just a little uninformed, so lighten up, football nazi. I thought that as long as he wasn't touched by an opposing team player, the ball was still live. Still a great game and I hope they kick the 'Nole's butts.

Not trying to be a football nazi, just stating a common sense fact. To me it was an asinine comment using something like that and trying to make the case of Maryland not being a "top-tier" team. Maryland is not a top tier team simply becuase the top-tier teams usually have more good players, not a one play incident like that anyway. Maryland is a good team, with a some really good player and they have played some good games. But I agree it was a great game.

If the terps are not ranked next week, they stand a good ghance of winning. Every time they get ranked they lose the following week.
