Why should my taxes pay for this guy?

Since the state pays this guy's 1.6 million and the govenor makes around $200,000 can't he be paid by private donors if he needs this much money?

as if he doesn't accept money already...

The State DOES NOT PAY his salary. Money generated from the Athletic Department does. That means Men's and Women's basbketball and football. The rest of the sports feed from the kitty. As far as wht he is worth? An old line from I believe Babe Ruth when challenged about the fact that he made more money than the president of the US he replied, yeah, but I had a better year than he did. I bet you think Calhoun had a better year than Rell, not don't you?

Stop and listen to what you are saying.
This man will be in the top 5-6 winningest coaches of all time.
He is at the top of his profession at what he does.....the top 5 of all time!!!!!
Is Rell in the top 5 of what she does in her profession?
I would think if you are in the top 5 at what you do....no matter what you do....it says volumes.
And guess what....we are fortunate enough to have him here in CT....

We all know that salaries of athletes and coaches are way out of proportion - as are the ticket prices we pay to help fund them. It's a reality of athletics in America - deal with it.

If you can't respect and appreciate the heart and emotion and love with which Mr. Calhoun coaches, then you need to take a closer look at the complete person, not just 15-second rants from press conferences.

He is the genuine article - a fiesty and flawed New Englander who tells it like it is. I'm grateful to have him as UConn's coach.

Mr. Calhoun and the Uconn mens basketball team, congratulations on your 800th win. Whoo Hoo. The team was awesome in yesterdays game as well as their whole season. SHORELINER - If you can't say anything nice, then you shouldn't say anything.
Go UCONN this is your year, I'm feeling it.

I was at the game last night and the noise in the bradley Center was unbearable at times. The near capacity crowd was trying to will their team to a win. That was not the case and UConn's body language said we are here to win! I met Aj price after the game and several other players. Aj was quite gracious and chatted and said he was just feeling it and the coach said keep shooting AJ. Coach andre thanked me for coming all the way from chicago to see the game and kidded me about hanging with a marquette guy. Thabeet kidded me because i did not have his name on my shirt. this will definitely go down in this alum's experience as one of the most exciting and rewarding nights in UCONN's storied history! What a night , what a great team!

I'm a State of Connecticut employee, if JC gave back 10% of his salary the affect would be so nominal as to not be news worthy. Mine nor any other State job that I can think of are nothing other then service rendered employment,in other words we labor and get paid,JC on the other hand, labors ,gets paid, and generates income back to the State, find me another job that does that to the same degree and then we have some thing to discuss.
He is one of the best coaches of all-time and is actually UNDERPAID compared to other NCAA coaches that haven't even accomplished what he has!!

I can't believe the amount of people that come on here and bash Calhoun. If you take the top six paid college basketball coaches and look at their salaries, Calhoun makes about half of what they do. It's not even close. He is successful, passionate, and charitable. He has built the Uconn program from nothing and made it into one of the top in the country. Uconn and Connecticut are lucky to have him.
That being said, what a game last night! Congratulations on 800! A.J. played amazing and "Sticks" had a breakout game. Let's hope we see this more often. Go Huskies!

So, Cameo where are you? Awfully quiet for a poster that claimed UConn would be losing more than they win! Let's see, lose 2 of 4 games, NOT, lose in first round of BE tourney in NYC!...NOT, you don't even know the tourney format, knucklehead!! Calhoun deserves a raise....800 wins and you and the rest of the negatvie posters should realize what positive impact coach has brought to the #1 public university in New England...

Wow. great game. Price was spectacular but the real story is number 21! Who was that guy driving by people and dunking on them and fighting for rebounds and making great entry passes? Was that really Stanley Robinson?

First off, I just want to comment on a (GREAT) basketball game! Even if we would have lost the game, it still would have been a (GREAT) basketball game! Taking the level of play up to another notch was absolutely fanstastic! Maybe the best basketball game I have seen from UConn in 3-4 years.

I have been hammering AJ Price for probably 4 years now, but I have to give credit where credit is due. He played a fanstastic game. All I ask is... PLEASE... show up and play that way for the rest of the season. No more inconsistency..... please.....

As far as Calhoun goes, Congrads on the 800th win. A hell of an accomplishment! As far as the pay goes, to make 1.6 million a year or what ever the correct numbers is to coach 18-21 year olds to throw a ball in a hoop, will never sit right with me. Also, with the cancer center, that has absolutely nothing to do with how much he should get paid, nor does it entitle him to make that much money. That has nothing to do with how much he should get paid and weather he deserves what he gets paid. But enough of the Calhoun situation.

Stanley also played a very good game. I loved the aggressiveness he played with. More guys on the team should the aggressiveness.

Thabeet needs another year of college to become some what of an offensive player.

Andrian, USE THE BOARD WHEN YOU ARE UNDERNEATH THE HOOP. THAT'S WHY IT'S THERE. It's not for decoration!

If we make outside shots and 3's, if the point guard can give us half of what he gave us last night for the rest of the season, our big men attack the hoop as Stanley did last night and we get consistent solid play and (hustle) from everyone, this team has a great chance on bringing home another title.

Lots of luck and....

GO......... UCONN!!!!!!!!!!

While traveling through Scranton I observed a national news network perform a hatchet job on Calhoun by showing unflattering cuts of his recent rant. Jim, no worries man, you and Geno can take a little heat - Cal Master Flex and the G-Man put the "Great" in the Great State of UCONNECTICUT!
