St. John's gets bounced by Marquette

It was ugly, and it was over early for St. John's. The Red Storm scored just 10 points, a Big East Tournament all-time low, and fell behind by 28 to Marquette at the half.

Congrats to marquette, who played a truly impressive game.

Norm roberts seems to be a very nice man, but St Johns needs to get a big name coach, or they will never be able to recruit the talent needed to compete in the Big East.

And for Buzz Williams, the coach of Marquette....for you to have your starters in the game with 3 minutes left, and up 35 points.......I hope Jay Wright does the same to you tomorrow, and smiles at you the whole time. That is what is called karma coach, and it's coming. Go NOVA!!!!!

St. John's set a Big East Tournament first half record for fewest points scored with a grand total of ten. St. John's will never return to a meaningful basketball program when the clueless Administration thinks a losing record by Norm Roberts means he is doing a good job. Nice man but a horrible hire with no big time coaching experience and an miserable losing record at Queens College. St. John' was done as a major player in college basketball decades ago.

Stop blaming the coach. It's time for St Johns to find a different league to play in; they have no chance of competing with the big boys in the Big East. The reality is: The top recruits don't want to play in Jamaica, Queens, and players could careless about the highly touted "playing at Madison Square Garden" factor. St Johns should consider joining the NEC, Atlantic 10, MAAC, or Colonial Athletic Association.

[Tired of the nonsense]

The coach is an a*s*s*. He doesn't get the respect from his players, like Lou had done for so many years. The tradition and love of the game of SJU basketball has been long gone. We need a coach and coaching staff that is able to get to the basics first and the bring it out of each and every player. Then tap into their talents as a team player. These players all think they are better than each other and they all have that idea of making it big. The only players who truly make it big are the ones who know struggle, work hard, love the game, and have the respect.

Bobby Knight defenitely would not come, and even if he did, I don't think he has the "recruiting" in him anymore. He is sitting pretty, doing tv for espn, and doubt very much he'd leave that for SJU.

Bobby Cremins may take the job if offered, as he is originally from NY I believe, and may do it to restore the SJU tradition. But I don't see him pulling off any recruiting wonders now, so I don't know he is the answer.

If I were the AD for SJU, the choice would be either:
1) leave the Big East
2) break open the vault and pry Calipari away from Memphis.

Yeah why go to Jamaica, when you can bask in Storrs, Ct or Syracuse.

They bring back everyone next year and get Anthony Mason jr. back. He either wins 20 games next year, makes the NCAA or everyone gets their wish.

It's not just the postal code. The campus itself has something to do with it, and SJU doesnt compare to either. Not to mention that Uconn has been on (or near) the top for 10 years, and Syracuse is successful every year. Kids want to get exposure, and play in tv. They don't get that with SJU. As for the coach and his actual coaching abilities, I don't know that he is qualified or not, as he's never had an equal playing field, as far as talent goes.

It's Jamaica Estates and a 30 minute subway ride from NYC. Storrs is a 30 minute car ride from Hartford, not exactly a selling point.

I agree, but the key is recruiting and St. John's with a far worse campus 20 years ago managed to recruit. If St. John's wins 20 next year, they're the toast of NY and recruiting becomes easier.

Norm Roberts specifically recruited 5 freshman last year and they were horrible the first year and now just mediocre. If they don't succeed next year, he gets fired.

I agree that it is ALL about recruiting. Lance would be a good start, but I'd like to see a 6'11" stud as well.

UCONN isn't selling Hartford, and I'm sure recruits could care less if Jamaica Estates is 30 minutes from NYC. I've been to both schools and there is no comparison; besides St Johns is basically a commuter school.
