Former college football coach to open west end Zaxby's

There are 6 comments on the www.citizentribune.com story from Jul 30, 2008, titled Former college football coach to open west end Zaxby's. In it, www.citizentribune.com reports that:

The former Wendy's location on West Andrew Johnson Highway came a tumblin' down recently to make way for a second Zaxby's in Morristown. In a press release issued Wednesday, the company announced that former college football coach Toby Strange plans to open the location this fall, creating an additional 40-50 jobs for the area. Strange coached at The Citadel, Louisiana State University and his alma mater, West Georgia University, before joining his sister and brother-in-law in opening two Zaxby’s stores. The Stranges relocated to Tennessee from Georgia in 2006. "We’re thrilled to be in Tennessee and excited to expand our Zaxby’s business with a location in Morristown," Strange said. The new location for the southern-based franchise will be the 40th for Tennessee, and will feature Zaxby’s typical layout. The 3,388 square foot location will offer drive-thru services and feature a dining area that seats 89, decorated with vintage memorabilia and signage. Self-described as "quick casual," the restaurant offers prepared-at-order chicken fingers, wings, sandwiches and salads. Popular items on the menu include chicken fingers, jumbo buffalo wings — with a choice of eight sauces varying from "Wimpy" to "Tongue Torch, "Nuclear" and "Insane." Side items include onion rings, tater chips and spicy fried mushrooms. The salads, or "Zalads," are assembled at the time the order is placed instead of being pre-made and stored in a cooler. "Zaxby’s exceptional taste and family atmosphere are what first attracted me to this restaurant concept, and I know that since the opening of the first location here in Morristown in 2006, residents have been as passionate about it as I am," Strange said. He plans to hire 40-50 team members, consisting primarily of cooks and cashiers. "The key to success at Zaxby’s is a great smile and a willingness to learn and grow, Strange said. "We’re a different kind of restaurant with a different kind of attitude — from the food and service we provide to our customers, to the respect we provide to each other." Headquarted in Athens, Ga., Zaxby’s founders Zach McLeroy and Tony Townley opened their first restaurant in Statesboro, Ga. in March 1990. In 2007, the chain opened its 400th location, and to date has opened 440 units in 12 states — Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

I love chicken and my anything but a Ms. Col. Sanders sister, Tina, does not do a good job of frying chicken. I guess her Grainger County Mom never handed her down any secret recipe when she was growing up. It would make no difference to me if a LSU player, coach or fan had a chicken eating place and their chicken was good, this former UT football player for three years and a student coach for one year and now a big UT fan, will take his family there to eat because we all like Zaxby's Chicken. It would make no difference if former West High and LSU golfing standout, P.J. Smith owned half the place, my family would go there and "pig out" on chicken. It is too bad P.J. Smith is not part owner, the sign on the establishment could say, "Pig Out on P.J.'s Chicken" I would predict instant business success. I bet P.J. could and would be seen there often. He would have to start going by the name P.J. again as I think he now goes by some other name. I might get Tina a part-time job there Claude C., learning how to fix chicken and she could also save her money up to buy her a new Jag. She could have it paid for in full by age 60. Tina is age 41 now and is NOT a lazy lady by any stretch of anybody's iminagination. I say bring on the good chicken and leave the opossums where they lay.

Well, I do know Jerry personally, and I can tell you he does like his "sweet wife, Tina", as well he should. I don't think she is as flamboyant as he is, but when I get together with the two of them, there is a lot of laughter.

For those of us who do know Jerry, his posts are even more enjoyable, because we can hear that lovely NC accent. If he ever tries to hold another meeting of Topix posters, you really should attend.

Morristown LPN---I assume with a name like that, you are one of those ladies that I cherish and hold near and dear to my ever loving heart and each day when you march out your door to go to work, you cover your body with a favorite pair of scrubs that such ladies in your profession wear to work. In your case, you must be one of those Angels of Mercy that people call a nurse. I love such women and almost married one right out of high school many moons ago. Sweet wife Tina wears scrubs to work as well but she is not a nurse, I wish she were. She has the title of Optical Assistant and does look good in her scrubs. When we go out to eat anywhere, she has some scrubs I would just as soon that she wear as her regular outfits. I guess I just like that medical look. I got to see another Tina this morning at Rusty Wallace Toyota. She was not wearing scrubs but does add a lot to the repair department with her beautiful smile and sweet personality. She checks people in and out of the place and as I said is a very pretty lady to have to face when you go into the place. She would have made a great nurse, of this I am sure.

My friend, the Ex-Vol would have made a good anything he had wanted to be, but no, she chose public education which is fine and dandy. She is a lot of things but most of all, she is my good and dear friend who is also very funny. Morristown LPN is not only a nurse
but is an LSU Tiger fan. Bengal Tiger fan that is. I can take an LSU Tiger far easier that I can take an Auburn Tiger, did you hear that Mr. Bobby Garrett, City Water Engineer and his friend Mrs. Lynn Newman or whatever name she goes by these days, hope I got it right. And what about you City Police Officer Jacklyn and your friend, little Ms. Marsha Collins, Parker, etc. I guess Officer Jacklyn(sp) will still be pulling for the Gators. I hate Gators, I hate Gators but I love my Vols who are going to do very well this year, you just wait and see. The Trojans as are the 'Canes going to well also. Well, I am off to Rusty's place. Please do not give me an unwanted traffic citation officer Jacklyn.
