The current impasse between the Big Ten network and cable operators might just have a long-term effect that the Big Ten will come to regret.

I am watching UConn v. Georgetown this afternoon. I'd much prefer to be watching any Big Ten game, but that is not an option.

I am disappointed with the Big Ten. By starting the Big Ten Network, they have not provided loyalty to local channels that have loyally served them for decades. I feel loyalty to local channels that have provided me with entertainment for my lifetime.

I am disappointed with Comcast. They are extremely high priced for the content they provide. Fortunately for them I enjoy their cable service more than I am dissatisfied with their Cable TV service. As new options enter the marketplace (UVerse for one) that equation may end in a different result, soon.

However, I will not be switching services just to get the Big Ten Network. I am less interested in Big Ten sports, since they are no longer available. Because of the impasse between these two groups, I will turn my attention elsewhere. There are plenty of things to do in life. Watching sports on TV, while enjoyable, is extremely easy to replace. Note that this impacts more than my decisions for TV viewing. I have purchased Big 10 Mens Basketball Tournament tickets for quite a few years. I was excited that Indy won that event for the next few years. While I continue to celebrate something that is good for Indy, I will not be attending. The same goes for NCAA regionals/finals. It's an easy choice. I'm saving hundreds of dollars to spend on some activity that is more loyal to me, the fan.
